OOC:

I'm strongly of the impression that the injury to Raki isn't physical in nature (on top of the fact that he regenerates) and will require the Cryx (or possibly an Energy spell). However I'll let Scott clarify things for us.

If Scott rules or strongly indicates that a simple healing device, Unali's amulet, will be enough to save Raki then Arawn will use the Cryx to end the ward.

If he rules otherwise or if the answer remains strongly unclear then Arawn is with Kiet, not wishing to sacrifice Raki, and will use the Cryx to save him.

   Either way...

IC:

There is a look of grim determination on Arawn's face as he turns to face Payan's ward. Crafted by his father it was fitting for Arawn to end it. Plus he was the one most likely to succeed. He just hoped that he might succeed before things turned truly and even more dire for the party.

"I'll deal with my father's ward," Arawn said, staring ahead.

Subject: [pnpgm] Kiet's actions

Well, maybe just thoughts....

Kiet is pretty pleased with himself over the first few wards. Not only did he handle his own allotment of the Elder spells, and without a failure, but also has to handle two of them for Z! That was just plain crazy. Certainly she is a far more accomplished Mage than Kiet...but there it is. A fine accomplishment in and of itself.

Kiet thanks Unali for the use of her anti-Law wand. He wonders, however, under what circumstances she reserves that for. And for whom. Most wands cannot be used my non-magic users. Kiet wonders enough to want to ask, but refrains, knowing she won't likely answer. Perhaps later, in a more private venue. Kiet nods to her in clear admiration of the preparedness, and says "Very wise."

When it comes time to deal with the rest of these cursed Law wards, he must profess his nervousness over his likelihood of success. His odds seem poor. Still, he may be one of the few that could even attempt these and, oddly, maybe the best prepared (highest EL). While Kiet may actually know and use a couple of low energy Law spells (survivalist skills that his teacher insisted upon), he has rather a great deal of distain for them in general. They are, after all, nothing but the mummery of those despicable Formorians. While using such spells makes Kiet feel dirty, he does have to admit that his teacher was right, and further admit the usefulness of always having food and water available. Even for his horse, Ma Siwang. Kiet idly wonders where his horse is right now.

Time to get started in earnest! Ward after ward fall. Kiet's surprised but also encouraged, his confidence soaring. Then, something very unusual happens. He casts the counter-spells, and he fells like he's in his zone. Everything goes right. Not just right, but great! After the casts, he feels amazing, like he could do almost anything. Then, sure as Formorians are rude, reality and fortune reared up as Kiet failed one cast. Kiet was thrilled that the ward's magic didn't cause any direct harm. Still, it was disturbing to see his own name appear on the ward. Kiet furrowed his brows trying to remember any spells that might do that...and try to puzzle out why. What does it mean?

Still, that many successful casts was far beyond his expectation. He looks forward to understanding the improvements in his skills this might bring.

Just before the final wards, the exploding magic...unknown if it was, indeed, a ward...knocks down Raki and he takes poor Dorhak with him. Kiet yells out "No!" when he sees this. Kiet hopes that maybe a little bit of Kell, and Kell's memories, can make it back to the middle world. Besides being useful, it would also provide a way to honor his friend.

Kiet, wanting to help Raki, calls out at first "Help Raki!". After the others start talking, Kiet calms down a bit from his initial emotional outburst. There is logic behind the suggestions. We need be to be able to get home or having Raki along is meaningless. Still, Raki is important to Kiet, so he still looks for alternatives. "Look...I expect I'm going to have to help with one of those final wards, and I don't really look forward to it! But even then, isn't there anything anyone else can do against the one by Payan? Sacrificing Raki, to whom we owe much, is just wrong! Anyone?"
