There are some historical weapons that took breakage into account. There are some spears that were found that, instead of having a butt spike, had a large, round lead weight on the end of the spear. This way, if the spear shaft broke, you just reverse your grip and you have a mace. Just a parenthetical comment. Scott Cohan
