[pnpgm] Good Vs Evil

Had a fun chat with a player today. Player believes the giant
should've been far more mean and evil.
Simply go under ship hole it. Giving little or no time before ship
sinks and then eating the dead.

Yes. That's a pure evil GM. If I were evil I coudli've had x4 as
many mermen on ship and killed everyone.
Sure challenge is great. But I HATE games that will just have gms
kill out of sport. You spend years on a character
and poof hes dead. Is that fair? Some say it is. A recent game
pbem for pnp was ilike that we all played for 6-8 months.
then overnight GM goes and kills every player without reaction
time. So half a year wasted. All because GM was not big enough to
continue just gave up.

I've done games since early '80s. Some since '70s. I've been in
these stages..

1: Hack/Slash. 90% hack slash. 5% characters, 5% story.
We've all been there. maybe 5 min of role playing and 300 hours of combat.
2: Mid-Hack: 40% hack, 30% character, 30% story
Usually after 3-5 years of stage 1
3: Moderate: 50% combat, 25% character, 25% story
4: Experienced: 30% combat, 30% character, 40% story
5: Super experienced: 20% combat, 50% story, 35% character development

I am easy 4 and at times 5.

Doing combat is fun if your to rpgs.

Stage 1 I'd say GMs are 80% evil
2: 60%
3: 50%
4: 30%
5: 10-15% evil

To me a decent gm mellows a bit.

By 4 they prefer story time.
That's me.

So sure I coudl've been a evil gm and killed half the party without
even a chance to react.
Same could a asteriod hit the ship. What does it prove? That you cna
kill folks:?
This update shows that 2 may die. Finn and Z are not out of hot water yet.

I have no issue killing folks due to
1) stupidity: 'sure you want to cross that castle turrret when there
are 100 archiers below and you have no armor?'
'sure I run fast' 'ok you run across the 10 feet. Just with 80
arrows in you. your dead'
2) happenstance: like with Z. If the Giant rolled Finn for the
trident finn would be dead now. Instead I rolled 1 out of 14 random
targets and Z got unlucky. Did I pull back the dice? No. 6d10 is deadly.

I've killed many folks like Triest in IBT, Kell, Caladan and a few
others. Doesn't mean I have a 'will not kill pcs' sign on me.
Just I will not go out of my way to do so.

So my purpose here..
Should i be more evil or good? or neutral?
Would you rather have the story or the blood?

If I sank ship folks would be dead and would take a good month to
recover. Why waste a month on a random encounter on a pbem? in table
top sure! But a pbem is long as it is.

We've not even go to actual plot stuff. :)

So I have 1 vote for 10% evil.
Figured I'd ask. :)

ON a side note. I've been considering the future. 2019 is our 20th
year. Its been a long run.
I could do pnp for decades. But i recently encountered a podcast
that wanted me to rerun a certain game.
There are 400 odd eps and I'm on ep 7 :) It used a d20 system now
but original rules were out even before pnp in 1980.

Fringewothy.

One of my all time favs.

In a nut shell. If know Stargate or Sliders your half there.
Fringe Paths are linked by static portals (silders was not static)
Via these FPs you have a million million worlds to visit. You explore.
One world coudl be scifi jet packs and spaceships.
One could be dragons and swords.
One could be Germans who go to s america rose up and took over the
world and finally won.
One could be a western level world.

Any genre.
This is just back of my mind. We still got a year or two but figured
I'd mention what I'e been doing. :)
I run 26 other systems. So we may vote.
