Z'leyra is not the most experienced survivalist in the prairie, but she
does remember being taught the basics. Water being VERY important, finding
it is one of those basics.

Beyond the occasional lake or pond that we may come across (helpful to have
aerial surveillance), rivers and streams come from springs that meander
downslope and come together to form larger streams and rivers. Unless you
are in a desert or traveling parallel to these water flows you should come
across streams fairly regularly. Sometimes the streambed will be dry. By
digging down a few feet in the deepest part of the streambed you may find
water that if you wait for it to settle or filter will be fine for drinking.

Without aerial reconnoitering one could head to the highest point to look
for streams and their starting points. Either way one can follow animal
trails and tracks to see where they get their water.
