[Argh! Kell wanted to help Raban too. He would run/ride there as fast as he can since he is on duty. He's not abandoning that friendly giant, no way. I wasn't clear enough in my last post.]

-----
[Continuing around the campfire, that fateful night.]

Julis 8th, 1634TH]
[Event: Day of Monk attack]
[Time: 7:45pm]

Looking at Caladan, Kell seems to share his thoughts. "I do not relish in suffering or pain of others. I do believe in justice though, sometimes swift and direct. Do the ends ever justify the means? That is a vital question to me, one I am still deciding." Sighing and looking around again. "Perhaps Tiehul's former friend, and our former helper, had his come-around with this." Grinning at that thought very quickly, then turning serious again.

"Why did I offer to kill this traitor? Because I was betrayed. A serious betrayal. I am still seeking the betrayers, I have it narrowed down but don't know for certain. Several years ago my younger brother, Swansi, and I were working our overland trading business. It was our largest caravan to date. Thirteen fully loaded wagons, lots of merchandise. Lots of profit. Whilst I like and encourage healthy competition, both in sales and more, others don't. Our business was cutting into the other businesses. As you all know, not everyone is honorable." Kell is figeting at this point, unsure what to do this his hands. As he speaks he takes out some cards and fiddles with them.

"We had just finished the outbound portion of the trip. All went well. The wagons loaded with cargo to return to Ba'Ru we left. With this much cargo we had a large guard. Sixteen in all, not including my younger brother Swansi and I." Taking a deep breath, trying to shuffle the cards but instead of them staying the clean pattern as usual, they go askew.  "Plus there were the wagon drivers and some of their families.  Some general workers for the cargo and so on.  It was a very large caravan."  Looking around at the faces in the fire, surveying reactions and trying to control his emotions.

"They attacked far from Ba'Ru. Heavily armed and all on horseback. At least twenty of them; these couldn't be basic bandits. Those aren't bad odds, our guards and Swansi and I were all battle-tested and prepared. Until the traitors turned. Six of our guards turned on us." Kell raises his voice, full of passion, "Six! Those dogs had been with us over a year, eating, sleeping, gambling, living, we thought they were good friends."  In a quiet, sad voice, "Good friends...."  back to normal voice, "With the betrayal the battle turned immediately. From twenty versus eighteen of us, to over twenty six versus only ten of us."

"We fought bravely. We fought hard. There was a wizard on their side, and that wizard and I countered each other so magic made no difference. The fighting was intense. And we died. Almost all of us. I was the only survivor. I only lived because of my helmet, I took a massive hit from a six and a half foot tall, flaming red-haired warrior to my head. It cut my spear in half and nearly cut my head in half too. Luckily my helmet saved my life. With the amount of blood pouring down my face he thought I was dead, not just unconscious. Otherwise I'm sure he or someone else would have cut my throat."

"I was found and rescued before I bled to death and returned to survey the slaughter. Everyone else was dead, just left there for the vultures. There was Tan, the guard commander with his arm off. There were the archer brothers from Katai, Kasi and Chan. Peter. Young Gass that was learning his father's trade, and Candle his father. More dead."

"Then I found Swansi. Dead. His head clean off." Pausing at this, taking a moment to gather himself, looking down at the fire. In a moment the half-elf continues, "There was only one attacker that might do that, the red haired giant with the great sword."

"Because of the betrayal, it was all gone. My brother, and friends, all killed.  They had taken the carvan too, not that that mattered with all the dead."

"Ever since then I've been alone not wanting to find then loose anyone else.. I've searched for the people that attacked us. I will find them. And I've grown to despise traitors. Loosing your brother and almost everyone that you care for, well, that'll do it... Those traitors killed most of us in the initial turning."

Taking a deep drink from his mug, Ha'Kell then finishes for now, "That is why I've been travelling alone and why I hate traitors. Tiehul's former second reminded me of those guards that turned on us, that betrayed us to death. All of us, over thirty of us. Not to mention the caravan, cargo, profits, and all that. That was minor compared to the deaths of the guards, wagon drivers, and families that came with us. The traitor deserved to die."
