     [Recap]

        From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions/Comments]
Sorry, still no access to home email
.

While practicing sign language with Jordi on the boat,
Ben'Dar signs to Jordi, "Why are you so interested in military
tactics, mercenaries, etc? Are you involved with an Elf
military group?" Then grinning mischieviously, he signs, "Or
are you planning an Elf invasion into human lands somewhere?"
(Jordi knows that this last comment is not meant in a negative
way, since Ben'Dar's people, the Zen'da, enjoy a good raid on
a neighboring tribe whenever they can get away with it. They
have a love for battle - It's just part of Ben'Dar's culture.)

Ben'Dar will spend the time on shore to get out away from the
water to ride Tef'wo in the countryside surrounding Asichi. It
will be a good chance for them both to stretch their cramped
muscles. He invites the rest of the group, "I'm going out for
a fast ride through the country to stretch some muscles. All
who would like to join me are welcome." He will plan to be
back in a couple of hours to meet back up with the rest of the
party and to depart with them on the river barge, but punctuality
was never one of his strong points
especially when out riding
the plains on a good horse.! ;-)

In fact, if the river barge doesn't move too quickly, perhaps
Ben'Dar can ride on horseback along the shore of the river for
part or all of the trip, keeping pace with the barge as it
travels upriver? Both he and Tef'wo would prefer that to
riding on the boat the whole way.

GM: No problem on email. Caladan states since the day is early
the party will leave as soon as a barge is ready so please not
to ride too long. In fact you'll likely only get 1.5 hours
of riding in and even then its not too far. Just checked the
stats. With Jordi's magic the boat is going a few miles faster
than the horse could travel in a day. So you'd be hard pressed
to keep up with it and tiring out the horse. Plus riding in
other tribal lands alone could be difficult. There will be
plenty of riding so don't worry about that. :) Looked like
this was for public use so posted it here.

    [New Stuff]

Sepes 26, in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: North Sea of Choclchara, River Sch

[The day stays well with clear and sunny. Temperatures even
get as high as low 80s. Sailing on the river barge just
at the mouth of the river the party has an encounter just
after 2pm. The party spots about a mile away toward the left
(the ship is sailing north) on the plains two Zen'dali riders.
The riders slow down and eye the barge. Caladan and Ben'dar
confer and seem to agree the riders are raiders. They seem
to be scouts or something based on their dress and war clothing.
The riders begin to ride off westward soon to be lost as the
        barge sails further north.]

Sepes 27, in the 163rd Year [TH]
       Location: River Sch

[Ship sails further north up the winding river. The day
is completely overcast and dreary. The day gets as high
as the low 80s however so its warm. At one point hail
drops on the plains from high clouds and impacts the barge
but not enough to harm gear or people. The hail seems ot
        disintegrate as impact.]

Sepes 28, in the 163rd Year [TH]
       Location: River Sch

[Clouds roll in and around 11am a storm fast approaches the
river area from the plains. It creates heavy rain, winds
and lightning. Luckilly there is enough warning the barge
takes to shore. The horses are unloaded to the open plains.
Its better to keep them on land spread out rather than on
the ship clumped up. As the barge is beached the party
quickly sets up tents and cover is taken. The storm lasts
for about 35 minutes. Another hour later after things dry
up and settle down the barges makes sail again. Storm
does create cool temperatures in the 60s though.]

Sepes 29, in the 163rd Year [TH]
       Location: River Sch

[The skies clear up and the sun returns. The ship makes
great sailing range today with the magics Jordi gives. Plus
a Wind Storm occurs early in the morning that stays active
for about 3.5 hours. The winds buffet the ship and make
staying up hard at times from falling off.]

[By this time the ship has sailed 175 miles north of Asichi
city. This includes a 45 mile boost from Jordi's magics.]

GM: The River barge. It is 50x50 feet. It is a flat square
surface with only a top deck. On the sides are kegs which
can be used to float the ship if needed, the captain describes
the operation. The horses fit in a railed in square area
30x30 which takes up most of the room of the ship. Theres
no real room for large tents so most folks have to sit around
the deck. There are 4 deck hands and the captain. The
deck hands use large steering/rowing oars (2 on each side)
to help the ship go or avoid areas in the river. Its really
a primitive ferry than a barge. Below the top deck boards is
a thin empty layer just enough for a man to crawl in but that's
about it. It is used to repair or in case of emergency need
to store materials. The ship's pitch and other materials used
to keep the ship in tact is in this crawl space. So the barge
top deck is about 3 feet above the water. This means that waves
can cause water to come on the deck near the edges. A single
large sail about 4x4 sits just in front of the horse area in
       the center front area.

Sepes 30, in the 163rd Year [TH]
       Location: River Sch

[About 45 minutes after setting on the river after breakfast
the barge suddenly begins to lurch. No one seems alerted
at first as this has happened before. Usually a large fish
or rock or something is hit in the river. About 5 minutes
later though the horses begin to get nervous for some reason.

About 4 minutes later Kasha is walking the deck and stops.
He leans down and then kneels down to the deck. Then he
places his ear to the deck boards. Everyone including the
crew now definitely notice this. He waves the captain over.
The captain comes over and listens. The captain nods and
then a deck hand brings a bar to lift some of the deck
boards. It takes about 2 minutes to get about 3 boards up
and then they notice the noise.

In the crawlspace just below the open deck boards is some
slug like creature. Its about 3 feet long and 1 foot wide
like a worm. It seems to have no features from the top.
It has slime on its body and seems to be eating the wood
        with a fierce speed.

Thig, now awake from his day nap with a blanket over him,
flies over. He eyes the creature as others come to look
        at it as well.

The captain pulls out a dagger and prepares to head down
to kill the slug creature. But just as he pulls the
dagger out the worm disappears....into the water...where
the wood of the lower deck was...within seconds the wood
around the eaten wood begins to dissolve by some weird
acid slime? The slug seems to have fallen into the river
and now is gone somewhere. The river water easilly starts
to surge up and around the crawlspace.

The captain stands and orders the ship to the beach immediately.
He explains the ship is sinking and everyone should leave
now. As some collect their gear others dismantle the horse
railing and prepare the ramp for departure.

The ship lurchs again as the rear section is taking on too
much water and the ship lowers about a foot. Another 1.5
minutes later the barge beaches and begins to de disembarked.

The ship beaches on the right side of the river. After the
horses are taken off the crew and some of the party haul the
        ship further onto the land.

The rew examine the damage. The captain explains they do
have some wood to repair it and enough pitch to fix it.
But they will need to sail back to Asici after they repair
the barge. The captain apologizes. he says he can take
the party back if they wish. It will likely take a day
to fix the ship since the afternoon is already there and
        hard to work at night.

Location: 175 Miles up river from Asichi city
[Map location - To find the river hex. On the map the
text for the Ser'manda tribe. Find this label. Find
the S first character. Go 2 hex columns left. Then
go directly up 2. That's where the ship beaches.]

[After viewing a map Unali has the party determines they
are about 130-140 miles south of where they wanted to
get off the river. Caladan figures they can head North
along the river to where they need to be.]

Caladan: "Sailing would be faster but that option is gone
now. We might as well head on horses."

        GM: Options
1 - Travel along the river. Safer in some ways since
party would not be in Ser'manda tribal areas so
would not be surrounded. Along the river at least
you can get water to the horses and might be easier
              for escape.
          2 - Overland - Going due North-east almost. Through
ser'manda lands and then to Caladan's tribal lands.

        Trip estimates -
           1 - 200 Miles along coast + 90 Miles eastward
2 - 220 Miles NE all on plains

So 220 or 290 miles. Overland would save 70 miles or
about 3 days travel. But again chances of encountering
Ser'manda tribal folks increases overland. Going by river
could include a rivercraft to use and less folks. Keep
in mind these tribes (Ser'manda) the ones toward the south
having the range war so traving strangers on their land might
not be too keen for survival. Caladan wishes the safety
of the group so votes below.

        Please vote.

           Player Vote Player Vote
           Balrog 1 Ben'dar ?
           Caladan 1 Chion ?
           Farseeker 2 Jordi ?
           Kasha 1 Strie'bog ?

           Trembyl 1 Unali ?
           Xian 1

           So far 5/13 [River], 2/13 [Overland], 6/13

I will vote Unali as with Majority. Since Wout will
be too distracted to vote. I know how he tends to
           vote (with majority).

[Xian inquires about the captain's safety. But the
captain explains he and the crew have dealt with the
Ser'manda. This is why they, the few who do, are
allowed on the river with no problems from the Ser'manda.
He believes they will be safe. If they have to they
can always cross to the other bank where the Ser'manda
            would not cross the river.]

     Actions? Comments?
     Next update Monday...

Party speed is 18 miles per day now on horses with imprevements
in horsemanship by Strie'bog and Chion. Speed has doubled.

     220 = 12 odd days
     290 = 16 odd days

This will determine next encounters as well. Encounters on
     plains or encounters river/plains.

Either way so we can think ahead plan on your next 16 days
worth of spells/skills. If you wish to now switch back to
horsemanship (3 of you guys?) let me know. If you wish
to just continue what you've done like Chion, Strie'bog then
let me know and I'll just keep the spell patterns up.

Horse and Food reports updated on site.

Unfournately, rebuilding the website I didn't have my horse
report which had the format for the magic. So for purposes
of this time period I did them below in this report. They
are not on the horse/magic report. I now have the file
via a old email. So should add to it in future. IF you
guys still think the reports are useful. I guess I can't
rebuild my timeline file :<. Oh well.
