                 Raddok is relieved that Z'leyra has a spell to check the...
            GM: Ack.  I know your eager to use 
rings but range is a issue.  For this type of 
encounter closest range is 300 feet.  This is max 
range of longbows.  If anything is beyond 300 
then its futile to hide or wait.  Just have to wait to get closer. :)

            From Raddok: [Re: Actions]
                 As he waits for the approaching 
ship aft, Raddok considers using the ring only 
one time, saving its 2nd use if a comrade is 
indeed a prisoner aboard the ship in front of 
them, although he's much more familiar with his 
sword's use than the power of the ring, which he's never used before.
            GM: Ack. Aft ship is falling way 
behind not approaching.  My fault I'll give a 
better word description of scene below.

            From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Z'leyra yells, "I will attempt a rescue." She 
will put the mast between herself and the aft 
ship, cast invisibility on herself at max EL 
followed by Levitation at max EL and then 
Teleport to about 10' above the deck of the aft 
ship. Staff at ready she will look for Arawn and 
attempt a rescue if needed. She may cast Quarrels 
at max EL thru her staff to distract the pirates 
just before she attempts the rescue via 
teleporting Arawn back to the party's ship.
         GM: Ack.

            Captain Dorhak ignores Raddok for the 
moment thinking about his comments. The good 
dwarf doesn’t have any idea what to do about his 
concerns, so begins to bark orders out on things he can do something about.

            "Mournath!  Veer away from the ship 
ahead. Let’s not cut close to them, but make sure 
they can’t swim or grapple with us." he is very 
satisfied with the result on that ship.  That 
little faerry is useful to have around after all, 
even with the annoyingly silly jokes she plays.  So far so good.

            But then Finn calls out his reading 
of the signal flag from the ship aft.  A 
prisoner?  Dorhak looks around and counts noses, 
knowing that Fremea is to the fore, and only one 
other person is missing.  Arawn!

            Dorhak loudly exclaims a single 
syllable word that none were taught by the magic 
language item. Then, in Marentian, he says. "That 
can only be that freakishly tall elf!  I gave 
orders that he go forward, not aft!  I’ll see him 
in chains for disobeying orders!  Now he's put 
everyone on this ship in danger.  By Dvallin I’ll 
see him in that cage we have below!"  He is obviously very, VERY angry.

            "Z'leyra!  And the rest of you!  Gather up."

            "My intent is to take what we can 
from the ship ahead, if we think we can do so 
without much peril.  I think we have some time to 
figure that out.  If we must, we sink the ship or 
burn it to the water line.  I also need options 
on what we can do about that stupid elf.  I’m 
strongly considering leaving him behind on general principle."

            Raddok is relieved that Z'leyra has a 
spell to check the outside hulls. When she 
reports finding nothing, he is even more relieved 
& thanks her for the effort & starts back to 
midship at a brisk clip, for the shelter of the 
lockers. He scans the sea forward and back & sees 
fire erupting from the sails of both pirate 
vessels, and part of the masted rigging falling on the one to the fore.

            Raddok feels a mix of both chagrin 
and relief that his primary targets for his first 
try at magic (using his new ring) have already 
been hit. As he reaches the partial shelter of 
the lockers, he re-thinks his targets - perhaps 
aim toward mid-ship masts or where pirate crew 
massed? He shudders a bit thinking of burning 
bodies. Then he hears Finn's shout to the Captain 
about a prisoner on the ship to their fore, and 
turns that way sharply. Where was Arawn?

            Raddok decides not to fire his ring 
at that ship - he can't risk hurting a friend - 
he will focus on two prominent targets on the 
fast-approaching ship aft - perhaps the steering 
wheel and midships? Whatever will hurt most, he 
grimaces to himself, & he absently slides his 
great sword slightly in & out of its sheath. He 
would fire the ring twice just before the pirate 
ship reached them, when no further than 60 feet 
away - perhaps closer for good measure, and he 
practiced aiming his hand while half-hidden. Then 
his sword would come into action.

            Raddok smiled grimly, ducking enough 
to protect himself from archers. "Hmm," he 
thinks. "Archers would be good targets, if the 
ring can reach them. But I need to hit the ship, 
too." He watches it approach best as he can, hidden as he was amidship.

            Mournath veers off toward deep ocean.

            Finn yells out again, “aft 
ship.  Body being tossed overboard.”  Finn lowers 
the spyglass and shakes his head.  “Just a pirate it seems.”

            Z'leyra yells, "I will attempt a

            Fremea smiles and looks around at her 
work.  Several are dead including a officer or 
Captain, sails are destroyed and half rigging is 
destroyed as a side benefit.  Many have gone down 
stairs to avoid the arrows.  But sailors merge 
back on deck and others rush out to deal with intruder.

            Hovering above their heads, Fremea 
moves to the steering wheel.  The helmsman or 
just another pirate is at the wheel.  Fremea 
glances up and sees the Black Depth approach 
fast.  She is no sailor but even she knows these 
pirates to board a ship moving 2-3x this ship is 
dangerous if not to pirate ship but to the 
pirates.  Then Fremea sees the Depths veer off.  Why is Dorhak turning tail?

            Fremea shrugs and builds mana.  She 
draws her dagger and gently moves between the 
helmsman and the wheel a span of 3 feet which she 
can do due to her body frame.  She raises the 
dagger to the pirates throat and taps him on the 
shoulder. She presses the dagger to his neck to 
draw attention.  Now that he can see her she 
shakes her head and puts fingers to her 
mouth.  The startled pirate looks around but 
knows if she flinches he is dead.  She can't 
understand their tongue but body language does 
help.  She points her fingers to her eyes and 
then to his eyes.  Then she casts a spell and 
fascinates the pirate.  To test she lowers the 
dagger and the man is entranced.

            Fremea then uses body language to 
point to wheel then to him and then toward the 
far east.  The man turns and looks then turns 
back.  She then repeats this 3 times and finally 
the man understands.  He begins to turn the ship toward that direction.

            Pirates begin to scream and bark 
orders at the helmsman.  But Fremea knows she 
must stall for time.  As pirates approach to stop 
the helmsman she uses her martial arts and kicks 
them away, daggers a couple and pushes others 
away. Finally she stops as the ship is on course.

            Still invisible she casts a transmute 
spell onto the wheel creating a stack of stinking 
dung.  The mechanisms tied to keel separate and 
keel control is lost.  Happy Fremea soars to the crow's nest.

            She watches as the ship now without 
any control left rushes toward shore. The natural 
waves of the ocean pushes the ship faster to a 
beaching.   Once in the nest she smiles and 
notices at least 25 or more or below.  They are 
arguing and threatening the poor helmsman.  For 
Fremea she carries all of her gear around making 
her life easier if she needs to flee.  She 
reaches gently into the bag and pulls the strange 
item out.  She recently tested it and now its time to use it.

            She invokes the spell of several 
within.  The spell will touch a 50 foot area 
around her which is a big part of ship. Suddenly 
hovering only 10 feet above the pirates turn on 
themselves.  The Quarrels spell takes action fast.

            After first 3 seconds 7 pirates are 
wounded and 1 is dead.  The next 3 seconds see 3 
more die from heavy wounds.  Next few seconds see 
none wounded. Next 3 seconds see 2 more wounded 
and 3 more dead.  Next few seconds see 1 more 
wounded and 3 die from wounds. Then 2 more die in 
the next few seconds with 1 more wounded. Finally 
after 32 seconds 1 more dies.  In span of 32 
seconds the spell wounds 11 and kills 14 with a 
total of 60 fights among each pirate.

            In span of a couple minutes Fremea 
has killed 6 with her bow, her spell has killed 
14 and the spell wounded another 14.  Even with 
this Fremea estimates half the crew is still alive.

            Suddenly Fremea is lurched out of the 
nest and begins to fall but recovers fast and 
flies back up.  She realizes the ship has run 
aground already about 25-30 feet from the beach. 
Those on deck are thrown this way and that.  The 
ship begins to groan and creek from the 
pressure.  She wonders if ship could sink if there is a hole below decks.

            Brutto yells to those around Dorhak 
and points. Everyone squints and sees fore ship 
(B) rushing fast toward the shore.  Then those 
with good eyes suddenly notice a major melee on 
board.  The 3 with spyglasses – Finn, Dorhak and 
Unali see the pirates fighting each other.  In 
seconds a dozen pirates fall.  Then the ship 
lurches and stops grounded right at the 
shore?  But the party notice that waves bat the 
aft of the pirate forcing it forward beyond possible measure.

         [Turn 25: Phase 4 - [Phase 216]]

            Z'leyra looks down and spots maybe 3 
dozen pirates moving back and forth.  But there 
is no sign of Arawn.  Either he is moved below or 
invisible. All pirates seem to look the same here 
as they become anxious and point to Ship 
B.  Z'leyra glances up and sees Ship B beached?

         [Turn 25: Phase 4 - [Phase 216]]

            Ship A in aft is now 1,620 feet 
behind and falling further away.  Ship B in front 
is only 394 feet away still out of any bow 
range.  Both pirate ships now unable to move at 
all. Player ship is moving west but can move back around as needed.

         Actions? Comments?

         Next Update...Saturday?

         GM: A fun update.  Sadly ran out of 
time.  Want to do more.  What I did was run 
Dorhak's speech and that time.  Then I matched 
that roughly 1 minute to Fremea's time.  Now all 
are matched up with correct time.  I'll be busy 
Wednesday so best would be Tuesday but too 
early.  So will try next update Saturday.  The 
combat I short formed it for speed, time.
            In order to get better grasp of 
scene.  Imagine top of screen is North.  Ship is 
going S/SE.  There is a bend behind ship to 
NE.  All ships are around that bend.  Ship A is 
N/NW slightly of ship some 1600 feet away.  Shore 
is 500-600 feet on right side of screen or 
east.  Ship B is SE of player ship beached.  Hope this helps?

         GM: Arawn: - A bit of a rest for ya for now. :)

             Fremea – Now what? Half crew still 
remains.  Can use item 1 more time today if needed.

            Z'leyra – By time teleported was at 
end of update so now what? Don't forget use of other magic while levitated.
