      [Recap]

From Will: [Re: Staying at Z'leyra's place]
Will thoughtfully scratches his chin and thinks about Z's
offer (having barely survived the last adventure)

After thinking for a moment he says "so can you do that on
          yourself in a pinch?"
GM: Ack. Welcome back! When get time you can catch up with
the last updates and get those CPs out and IBT when you

        From Will: [Re: Actions]
Does Will have a chance to examine the armor???
GM: Ack. You get all 3 gifts. I emailed you the 3 items
and the stats When we update the character sheet I'll

      [New Stuff]

          [Augado 11th - Sepes 24th, 1634TH]
          [Location: Marentia (Maren)]

          [Aug 11]

Farseeker is glad to be home in Marentia. For almost 12 years
he has been going abroad in various adventures from Fomoria to
Donara and all the way east to Katai. Now in his 30s even he
gets home sick for a time of rest and recreation.

That night while the party gets under way Farseeker lets his
shield down and gets drunk even more so than in Porta that
one time. Some like Fremea still do not know the man well but
he seems kind but missing something. For Z'leyra who has been
with him for almost 4 years she notices that he has changed
as well. Maybe its the fighting and the slaughter. Sometimes
even a soldier can get burnt out.

For the last month Farseeker has considered either to retire
or continue in the military. Fighting is all that he can really
do. He isn't skilled in much other things like the others in
the party. Even the giant who could take down a mountain giant
has other skills like Dance and music. This weighs on his mind
as he gets more and more ale down him.

Then just as he finally gets grips with it after losing 3
straight hands at cards against Kell, he decides to maybe
just retire and find something more useful like Xian has done.

Fate laughs at him as Luvac offers the new job to lead men.
How did the High Elder know this? How did he even have such
influence here? Surely Duke Aren would do just about anything
for the group but what favors were tossed about? For a long
time Farseeker examines the scroll. The man knows that he
isn't as educated as most others. In fact he can only read
Donaran on a crude middle school level. He dares not ask
as weakness is failure and failure is not in his book. How
did the High Elder know he can only read crude Donaran?

          [Aug 12]

Just before sunrise Farseeker wakes up from his night of
drinking or rather being passed out by it. He finds Ben'dar
in the stable and he examines Tef'wo's pretty mate. Both men
are so alike yet even Farseeker knows he is probably going to
settle and even now runs his own horse ranch.

Under hungover and squinting eyes Farseeker bids farewell to
those going to the Dark Lands. After a few hours of some good
sleep to recover he wakes up. After a good lunch he watches
Raban play his balalika in the tavern and sing about the party
and the adventure in Katai but not in overt terms. He sings of
people who stopped a powerful threat. He wonders if Raban just
wishes to keep things private or if anyone would even believe
him about the Vong. Regardless he decides that taking the fort
is another chance to improve himself.

Farseeker gathers his gear and heads out on his trusty warhorse.
He heads to Duke Aren's estate to the east of city. He meets
with Duke Aren who signs his papers for taking the fort. The
fort is about 120 miles south of Sivas in the forest and technically
under Aren's domain. Aren is glad for him to take the post and
welcomes him to the role. He tell him that King Maros will
be glad for him to take the role as well. After a couple hours,
Farseeker heads out. The forest is about 120 miles almost due south
of Sivas at the end of the road in the forest near the Bhamotin
border. Normally it might take 4 days by horse but he plans to
          take his time.

          [Aug 13]

After a slow ride toward the south, Farseeker makes camp. As
he is eating his fresh fruit and rations he notices two men
approaching. They are dressed in plain clothing and only one
seems to wear a short sword. He invites them for some warm
bread he warmed up over the fire. They explain they are travelers
to find a local sect near the fort that seeks to disrupt the
farmers. They are not priests but are sanctioned by the church
to represent them. Farseeker learns they are more here for recon
and to learn info from the locals. Then the priest may come to
rid the sect if needed. He discovers the sect has been known to
destroy crops and harm livestock. Farseeker explains that he
will be in charge of the fort and he can help if needed.

          [Aug 15]

By now road traffic this far south has diminished greatly.
But around 1pm he encounters 4 patrolmen on horses. They
explain that one of the guards had his sister ill treated by
a local thief and are out searching for the him. Farseeker
identifies himself and tells the men the thief should not be
ill treated at least as best they can do. He offers to go
but then decides he should report to the fort.

          [Aug 16]

Farseeker arrives at Fort Childran. He finds the place
easily as the road ends at the fort. He is surprised the
fort and town is bigger than he thought. One guard says that
there are around 1,100 people within 10 miles of the fort. At
least 300 directly within a mile of the fort or in it in the
barracks. Another 300 in the town and town margins within 3
miles of the forest. The rest are within 10 miles in outlying
farms. The forest is well cultivated and maintained even while
a very light lumber industry is here. The fort itself is about
10 miles north of the border and around 11 miles from the Sea of
Tears in the west. To the east about 10 miles are hills.

For most of the day he is escorted around to introduce himself
to the various top citizens and merchants. At any one time 100
or so men are in the fort while the rest are on patrol. He
inspects the troops and ensures they are good men. He finds
that a third of his men are calvary while the rest are bowmen
and swordsmen. Unlike himself who is trained in heavy weapons
the men seem to prefer light equipment like swords.

          [Aug 17]

Farseeker hires the blacksmith to repair his two suits of
chainmail as well as repair his main great sword. He decides
to use his magical pike for a few days.

For the next 19 days he practices his forest survival skills
as he patrols with others and explores the area.

          [Aug 18]

While on patrol with 4 others Farseeker encounters a dozen
peasants. But he notices they are acting odd on the farm.
He questions them fully. One of the men says these are the
outcasts or sect that has plagued the area. But he finds
no direct evidence. Farseeker knows that folks tend to
not understand some things and scapegoats are created. Like
with magic folks are too ignorant of it and fear it. He
does have them return to the fort with him. He suspects that
one wearing a amulet may not know its magical. The fort
healer knows light healing magic and enough to identify magic
in most cases. The wizard does seem to find based on the runes
it is a chaos amulet. Proof is seen when he places it near
a bush in his office and the plant withers and dies. Farseeker
explains this and the outcasts are shocked. They didn't realize
what it was and only assumed it was a heirloom. Farseeker lets
them go knowing that he will destroy the amulet. He makes
a mental note to track those 2 travelers down to inform them of
          what he learned.

          [Aug 19]

This morning a report comes in of an attack at a farm to the
west. Farseeker rides hard with 6 others. By mid afternoon
he reaches the farm and finds all have been killed. In fact
many have signs of being eaten. At least 4 adults and 3 kids
are all dead. Farseeker is disgusted by whatever could eat
a small girl half way. Farseeker determines that it was a
Forest Giant based on the foot prints left behind. He has
personally dealt with at least 3 forest giants in the past.
He finds them disgusting and deserve no mercy.

It is well two hours after sunset when the patrol find the
giant lair. It doesn't take much as only need to follow the
blood, gore and body parts left in its wake. The group attack.
This time Farseeker uses his dual great swords. The giant
kills two of his men but the giant is finally killed after a
brutal 2 minute fight. Farseeker does take a minor wound but it
          is not serious.

          [Aug 20]

While on patrol in the forest mid afternoon a patrol of 3
with Farseeker is ambushed by 3 Great Apes. The attack is so
fast one guard's face is ripped badly and another guard loses
his left hand when one yanks it away. Farseeker and 2 guards
are able to kill one and drive the others away. The small
          group rushes to the healer.

          [Aug 21]

Since the previous Ape attack was near the north road Farseeker
takes 5 men with him for patrol. With a tracker they find the
great ape lair and attack. None of the men are wounded by the
5 Great Apes that are killed.

          [Aug 23]

Farseeker alone encounters 3 adventurers in the town tavern.
He watches the young girl and 2 men. They remind him of a
group like his from years ago. Eager to see the world. He
talks to them and discovers they are looking for a local warlord
that they need to take in to the Duke. Farseker already knows
of him and has been searching for him. The thug who calls
himself a warlord has been using bandits to rob the folks on
the road. He has also kidnapped a few villagers and sending
them to slavers at the coast. But so far he sends word to
Duke Aren that he eludes capture. If Unali wasn't busy he
might send for her. But his first duty is his alone. he
tells the young people that the warlord was seen last going
east into the hills to the next fort some 60 or so miles
to the east. He lies to save them the danger. He hopes
          they understand.

That night Farseeker is escorting the cute school teacher
to her place near the fort. When both hear a scream and
go to investigate. There they find a man being attacked by
red eye winged beasts. Farseeker recognizes them as Terrestial
Demons. He tells the school teacher to run. While he attacks
the 3 demons right away. The other human a guard tries to
help. Farseeker kills two of the demons quickly and the third
demons possesses the guard. Farseker takes the guard to the
town but the priest can't help. The next morning the
possessed guard and 3 men rush to Sivas for a proper priest
          to help rid the demon.

          [Aug 25]

Today the fort is active by a visit of 8 entertainers that
are from Sivas. Seems Raban asked them to go and give the
fort a visit. The singers, acrobats, dancers and musicians
all entertain the troops and the town for a few days.

          [Aug 26]

Today a mob of a dozen merchants are upset in the market
when a merchant is beat up by a road bandit. Farseeker
does his best to calm the mob and it takes almost a half
hour to do so. But from this he does learn a tip from
one merchant that the warlord steals from those on the
road and sells the items to the merchants. He uses this
info to setup a trap to follow one of these bandits to
          their base.

          [Aug 29]

After a nice dinner with the school teacher, Farseeker
is walking back to his private house at the fort. He
watches a group of 2 deer in the woods and watches them
staring back at him. So often the forest is filled with
wild beasts and bandits But for once a simple sight of
a beautiful deer can calm a man down.

          [Aug 30]

Farseeker is on patrol alone when he encounters a young
man in his early 20s. He is standing by a tired looking horse
and the kid looks exhausted. He explains that his family
were all killed by a fire. The last wish of his mother was
to have her ashes spread in Donara. So the kid named Corrack
left eastern Bhamotin and ended up here so far. He intends
to ride all the way to Sivas, though western Marentia into
Thaliba and then toward Donara. But Farseeker feels a bit
sorry for the kid, especially when he sees the urn of ashes.
He gives the young lad 3 gold which should get him to Donara
on board a merchant ship from Sivas to Donara. The kid is
tsuched and very grateful. But Farseeker is not worried as he
is not very wealthy but well off. His own pay at the fort is
          enough to support him.

          [Sepes 1]

Luck comes to Farseeker when one of his informants report
the Warlord bandits will raid a merchant caravan coming today.
Caravans are not too rare but usually every 2-3 days from
Sivas to this area and into Bhamotin. Farseker sets a trap
since he knows the general area. He sends a force ahead half
a day's ride to stop the caravan. Then plants his own guards
among the group. He places 6 guards among the caravan then
brings another 4 with him. Then the caravan fakes a wheel
breakdown and have to stop for the repair. At first the attack
never comes thinking it a false lead. But then finally from the
forest the enemy charges. There are 15 of the bandits. With
Farseker in the lead his calvary rides to face the enemy. The
guards inside the caravan also act and fight back with hidden
          weapons.

A fierce battle that takes almost 2.5 minutes finally ends with
all but 2 bandits killed. Only one of the fort guards takes
a serious wound that requires immediate retreat to the fort
healer on a wagon. The others including Farseeker only take
light wounds. But the priority was to capture at least one
          bandit and two are captured.

That night the captives are questioned. Without Kiet here
to friendly "question" the men he has to rely on simple methods.
A good threat to hang one leads to a full confession. Farseeker
then learns the warlord's base, numbers and other important
          facts.

          [Sepes 2]

The next day a force of 30 head to find the warlord base.
It is a simple forest camp with weak sentries. The bandits
who have been a plague to the road only number 45. The
report that the warlord had much larger force. But Farseeker
leads the attack. After surrounding the camp the calvary
raid an hour before sunrise. This kills at least 12 before
they can even wake. Soon the battle wages on lasting for
almost 7 full minutes. In the end 3 guards are dead, 10
are wounded and all but 4 bandits are killed. Soon with
the sun up Farseeker discovers the camp is only a bandit camp
and the warlord only uses them. Disgusted he collects all
papers he can and takes the prisoners back to the fort.

Farseeker spends the day questioning the captives including
the one who gave him the wrong information. It becomes clear
the warlord has something over them and he guesses it may be
their family or lovers. But at least he finds no other leads
to the warlord. He sends for a magistrate to give justice
          for the captives.

          [Sepes 5]

Farseeker is now familiar with the fort area. His men seem
skilled but only about 10 are elite troops. The rest are young
boys serving for the first time away from home. He learns that
most of the time it seems like he is more a parent giving advice
          and soothing homesickness.

He realizes that some of the books in his private office are
written in Donaran. Many military history books and journals.
The ex-commander must have once been from Donara. He decides
to ask the cute, among other reasons to talk to her, school
teacher reading Donaran. So for the next few weeks he learns
with her help how to read better in Donaran. In just a few
weeks he actually doubles his skill in reading. He is almost
at a average reading level now.

          [Sepes 7]

This afternoon Farseeker encounters a wizard's party of 2
wizards and 2 apprentices. They are stopping at the fort to
get supplies. They are out to train their apprentices and
to improve their forest skills and herbalism. This is the first
wizard to visit that he has seen aside from the fort healer
who has a bit of magic training.

Farseeker is visiting a farm 3 miles west of the fort at
night. He is with a guard who is one of his best men and
his family. The guard's mother is due to give birth and so
the healer is with them. While the family waits outside to
the work that is inside with the Healer a foul smell overwhelms
them. At first the guard figures it to be a skunk but Farseeker
knows the smell. Farseeker rushes to his horse to grab his
magical pike. He tosses the other guard his sword. That is
when the Cu Sidhe attack. There are 3 of them and the guard's
father joins in to help with his pitchfork. But Farseeker knows
they can poison humans so he warns them to avoid them as best
they can. After a battle that lasts 3 minutes all 3 Cu Sidhe
are killed. But the guard is paralyzed by the poison of the
Cu Sidhe. Farseeker and the guard's father haul him inside
to wait for his mother to give birth so the healer can help
the guard. Soon a new brother for the guard arrives along
with a cure for his paralysis.

          [Sepes 8]

Farseeker is heading to the school teacher's house for lunch
when he encounters a mangy gray cat in a puddle. Normally he
would just walk past such things. But the cat stares at him
with those green eyes. Maybe this is what chance in a life
can do. When out killing Vong or saving the world one can't
care for a pet. But if he stays here. He decides to grab the
hungry cat and take him to the school teacher's place. Both
give her food and a nice bath. In the days to come Farseeker
begins to love the poor cat despite her ripping a nice tunic
          to shreds.

          [Sepes 10]

Farseeker is on patrol alone in the forest visiting some
farms. Mid afternoon he finds a beautiful white horse eating
in a clearing. He studies the horse and then realizes that
from past experience it is a Fay Horse. He has never seen one
up close but has heard Jordi talk of one He wonders if this
one could be sent to Arawn. But when he follows the horse
he finds the rare creature suddenly vanish.

          [Sepes 12]

Farseeker is on patrol with 3 others when they encounter a
group of 5 hunters being attacked by a clan of great apes. Two
are badly wounded when Farseeker joins the battle to drive the
apes away. The hunters only had light daggers and bows but no
real melee weapons so they welcome the rescue. Farseeker is
tired of this great ape clan attacking folks and orders his
best tracker and his elite force to track their lair and kill
them all. It is two days later when this finally done.

          [Sepes 20]

One of the hunters who was saved day earlier finds Farseeker
in the fort and brings him some fresh hides and meat. Hunting
in this forest is open as Duke Aren does not restrict hunting
but does restrict it in the hills.

Then the hunter adds a special gift with information. He
informs the commander of the location to the warlord's base.
His friends came across it and was captured but let go when
they were found to be no threat. The hunter gives him as much
          info as he can.

          [Sepes 21]

The next day knowing that the warlord has around 60 men,
Farseeker gathers most of his own men. He does this in tiny
groups so the warlord doesn't find out if he has spies in town.
Once the group of 80 guards mass they head west some 8 miles
          away from the forest.

By dusk that night Farseeker finds the camp with report from
his best scout. With Farseeker's tactical training he plans
a classic distraction to pull the sentries away and then does
a flanking calvary charge with his footmen coming from the north
          and east.

The battle wages for almost 18 full minutes. In the end
53 enemy are dead not including 12 slavers and a dozen other
bandits hired by the warlord. For Farseeker's group 8 men
are died and at least 20 are wounded. But the Healer is there
to help with his own two apprentices. Farseeker is wounded
with a severe shoulder wound but survives. The warlord who
is later to be found from Vahear is captured alive.

          [Sepes 23]

The Warlord is healed and sent under heavy guard up north
to Duke Aren's estate for justice. After the battle Farseeker
finds at least 3 dozen families and other hostages that
were being used by the warlord as leverage in his camp. With
the warlord, slavers and bandits taken out a new peace begins
          to fall in the area.

          [Sepes 24]

Today Farseeker discovers a group of 3 pilgrims entering
the fort. This is not rare but it is to have all 3 pilgrims
blind. It seems they are using a single dog to guide their
path. Farseeker is amazed how they can travel and he learns
they are from Sivas heading to the great Bhamotin lake to
worship in some festival. He offers to send at least a guard
to escort him south through the forest since there is no actual
road for a few miles till it crosses the border but they refuse.

To the citizens of the fort, Farseeker is clearly not the
normal commander. Most commanders ride with others on patrol
if not to look powerful but to have bodyguards. Most would
order his troops or merchants to do things rather than hire
them. He is a stern task master to his troops for their own
good but for the citizens he is clearly not a typical power
          mad person.

          Next Update....Thursday...

GM: Medium update for one IBT. You notice this one was an
example of a more detailed IBT. It is a typical IBT
for a PC. Since Ryan is here I can do it quickly and
we both resolved the combat using a combo of Burton's
mass combat rules, my own IBT speed combat and basic rules.
So this is how I would do it for other PCs. With large
battles I may just sum it up for a simple one like a duel
I may be more in depth depending on time.

GM: Still waiting on email reply from Wout to finish Unali's
IBT and get approval. I'm working with Fremea and Kiet
on their IBT email wise to go back and forth on details.
I could finish one or both soon. Still waiting on others.

GM: Was going to post chion's IBT next but I need to wait
for Kell and Arawn to see what they plan to do. Arawn
can teleport back but he may need a pickup from the DL.
Kell wanted to be taken to Ba'ru but not sure at this
point so will have to wait.
