          Seeing no wings on the creature Z'leyra figures that it must be
          using magic (of some kind or other) to fly and that the reasons
          to not use magic are moot for the moment. Determining that with
          only one opponent there is little to be gained from staying on
          the wagon's seat (not likely to be protecting Kiet better from
          there, just more likely to attract an attack) she figures that
          levitating would provide a more stable platform to sling missiles
          from.

          So Z'leyra will cast at max EL the following spells Orient Self;
          Shamanic Invisibility effective for (EL+1)*5 Turns; Clairvoyance
          effective for 10*ELTurns w radius EL+1; Levitate effective for
          (EL+1)*2 Turns.

          As she is invisible and flying she makes sure that she is not in
          between the party members and the creature (not wanting to be hit
          with 'friendly' fire) as she flies up to above the height of the
          creature and a bit to one side. She readies a stone in her sling
          while flying to be able to get a short range shot at it from
          above and just behind it, followed by more shots from above,
          behind and slightly to one side as it flies faster then her.
        GM: Ack. Sorry for not doing this last time.  I actually finally
            got this action 2 days after you posted it.  I'm not sure why
            it was delayed.  But will do the actions now.

          [Rabans plans: Cast Archery Powers-multiarrow at max El(check
          whether 3 or 4 as my sheet is confused) close to when the UFO
          will move to 600 feet (max longbow).

          [Then fire arrows every phase as it gets closer. Even at the
          600 feet he has a fair chance of a hit and it improves quickly.
          [math check:

          60(.4),51(.8),42(1.2),33(1.5),24(1.6),15(2.4),6(3),-3(3.4)=about
          14 hits of which about 3 are serious or better? (assuming El3
          and it comes straight at him) [He is better off skipping the 600'
          but likely he does not know that

          [Options: If Bless can aid bow use then cast that first. "Miryan
          please  help me protect my friends in this time of need and guide
          my Arrows so  they strike True."

          [Options: Fly closer and shoot from above the UFO for better hit
          chance? Since he has been left behind this is a good choice for
          at least ketching up

          [And once it gets very close Raban may try to grab onto the
          horns and beat it up that way. Of course with it that fast such
          a grab will be tricky.

          Raban sighs as the others move differently than he expected and
          leave him behind. Watching the UFO it is clear it could fly all
          the way back to where he is, but it may change course.

          He quickly decides he would protect others better being closer
          to them, so he runs toward the wagon and takes to the Air. [At
          least he will fly closer to the wagon before doing the above
          plans.]

          <GM gets to decide whether he must be on the ground for the
          spells and bow shooting since I do not know for sure how flying affects that.>
        GM: Ack.  The BM spell is powerful but is limited by its range.
            OF course a good enemy could thwart it and well do some  fun.
            I won't go into those details.  Rather not spoil the GM fun.
            But I tend to think of this spell in fantasy terms as a unit.
            In that say you have 5 fighters.  a powerful wizard in the
            center casting this spell.  Four wizards.  Five vs 30 and
            surrounded.  All five use swords.  This spell is cast and
            as one cohesive group they act as one mind.  thus they know
            when to move forward, retreat back, feint, swipe or slash.
            So this bonus gives them the ability not as 5 but 10 or 15
            of equivalent men and thus can take care of things.  In
            modern terms it upgrades a unit of 4 infantry grunts out
            of boot camp up to low level green berets with tons of
            experience.  Not in terms of skill but in terms of a fighting
            force and group.  That's my vision of the spell.  There
            are other spells like Weaken and Critical Strike and such
            that allow individuals to pinpoint weak spots. Right.
            Fire arrows to UFO which happens to be the general location
            of the wagon and party.  Now Kiet should duck. :)  Generally
            flying prevents spells.  Most even for levitate needs some
            form of hang/arm movement for balance.  You aren't a perfect
            flyer (see tv show Greatest American Hero and his landings).
            So it would be difficult.  Those with wings (Faerry) could
            if skilled enough (possible dex/agility rolls?) hover and
            cast spells.  But its not common.

        From Arawn: [Re: Actions]
          Talk to Arawn about it. He's usually good about teaching things
          as long as certain magics are treated with respect and he doesn't
          get the feeling it would be used for dark ends.

          If you're unfamiliar mechanically with the spell it's on the PnP
          site. Just check Rules> Magic and Spells> New Spells then scroll
          down to find Battle Mind.

          The spell isn't disorienting and automatically acclimates a
          person to it so no pre-training is needed. If Will isn't
          comfortable    with Arawn casting it on him just let me know
          and we can assume you    mentioned it when it was brought up
          previously:)
        GM: Ack. Yes.  Some spells may be guided by GMs to "know" the target.
            BM I don't care.  It should be a person you do know.  Some
            stranger would resist.  Since you warn folks their MDV would
            be downgraded a bit.  If they actively avoid the spell it
            would be up.  So the plan to warn is a good thing.

         players call on how the character acts in the end And sometimes
         you get a pleasant surprise when things actually work, dice are

        GM: Ack.  Shssh..don't give out hints to hurt the GM.  if
            they make open ended actions I can have fun with them. :)
            Ohh.  Exploding items.  I don't recall that one.  I do use
            Burton's charts.  But aby can happen even with 200% chance
            of success.  Sometimes the gods sneeze and fate laughs and
            takes over.  Its my universal super critical/success and
            super failure roll that can happen.  Even with 200% chance
            of failure there is a minor chance of a critical success
            showing the gods really like this move even if its stupid.
            I like the last idea.  Just run. So I can have some fun. :)

          <Thanks for pointing out where the spell write up was. Powerful,
          but the area and inclusions limit it quite a bit. But any boost
          is important, so Raban would welcome the help if he is close by.

          <Question for GM: Is there any way Bless aids Bow use? I do not
          have version 2 data on combat rules, so must assume Bow does not
          use OCV

          <I suppose Raban can always get in front of it so it smashes into
          him, should take the flyer out ;) But I suspect it would hurt a
          LOT

          Will limping slightly takes a moment to cast telepathy to send a
          message before recasting invisibility.

          [Scott, can you label where the barn is?  Where the MFD took
          off?  I think I know, but it's not clear to me.  Thanks.]

          While riding Kell will cast Elemental Powers - Earth.  Max EL
          w/Language.  If necessary, he will slow his horse a little to
          make it easier.  If it fails he'll cast it a second time, since
          he thinks there is time until the MFD is in range.

          When it looks like the MFD is getting closer, Kell casts Battle
          Mind, affecting himself and one other person if in range.
        GM: Ack.

         [Julis 26th, 1634TH]
         [Location: Middle Katai Plains, Shantou Province]
         [          20 Miles south of Shantou City       ]
         [          Old Shantou Carnival Grounds         ]

         [Time: 2:26:42pm]

           The UFO continues to fly fast toward the party.  It is almost
         like a blind bug seeking on target not in some random flight
         fashion to find a flower.  This might indicate some insight
         on an intelligence or instinct or as Kell believes control.

           Will rolls over to his knees and then shakily stands.  He puts
         weight on his right wounded leg and grits his teeth at the pain.
         He doesn't fall so it must only be sprained at the ankle.  He stands
         erect and looks around  He then stares at the fleeing UFO ahead
         of him going to the party.  He knows his leg can wait and so
         intends to warn the party.  He quickly casts a telepathy spell.
         He selects his mind to contact as he did before in the ocean
         to rescue Whitney.  As Will stands staring at the grey spot
         on the back of the UFO he communicates sending quick words to
         Whitney's mind.

           As Kell rides he considers his next move.  He knows his
         good skills are in summoning so he decides to form a new
         pact with the earth elementals around him.  He begins to use
         one free hand to gesture and speak the words to cast a earth
         pact.  Kell finishes the spell and notices a faint brown
         aura around him indicating the pact must be formed.  Either
         that or he has sand in his eyes.

           Z'leyra twists around to reach up at the luggage rack.  She
         grabs her drum from the rack.  It would do no good to leave
         it on her belt a sudden belt and it could fall and break
         under the wheels.  She holds it tightly and begins to chant
         and cast a shamanic orientation spell.  The drum beat seems
         to confuse the horses and make them shift and slow down  just a
         bit.  Kiet glances over and wonders why she is in the mood for
         music at this time.  As he glances over he notices her eyes seem
         to glaze and then clear as she enters her trance.

           The horses and wagons close their own gaps quickly toward the
         barn or the UFO.

           Raban standing way behind the party sighs at the mistake in
         letting his horse get ahead of him.  In fact it seems the party
         except for Whitney hasn't noticed him fall behind.  That or
         they know he can take care of himself unless there is another
         big worm in the area.  He has had many conversations with Strie'bog
         who has done a bit more Blessings than he has.  From those
         conversations he knows the spell can affect offensive natures
         from the gods and give advantages.  With arms raised to the sky
         in a defiant show to the UFO but is actually a plea to the gods
         he speaks softly. "Miryan please  help me protect my friends in
         this time of need..."

           Unali having secured her dagger in her boot and her magical
         boot on her hip goes to the wagon door Fremea leapt from.  She
         throws the door open and stares at the buildings in the distance.
         Then she stares rear and sees several horses without riders.
         Z'leyra, Kiet's are tied up.  But Raban's and Will's seem to
         trot along behind the wagon.  The horses slapped by their riders
         to move forward don't know at this point they could simply
         stop and graze.  Unali sees her chance.  She secures her sling
         and ensures her ammo is hooked.  Then she leaps out of the door
         like a tiger pouncing on prey.  With her black clothing she
         almost looks like a panther.  The wagon itself is going actually
         slow only about 10-20 feet per second at times.  But still is
         dangerous to leap from a moving wagon unless your a trained
         acrobat.  As her legs pull up, she moves them outward in front
         of her.  As she leaps she pulls her body back and to the left.
         With her right boot she twists it slightly so when it impacts the
         sand it skids on the dirt.  With her left boot she lands flat
         with a hard forceful impact to resist the friction.  As she
         does her body compacts into a crouch.  She takes no damage other
         than dirt and dust to her clothing.  With skilled grace she
         runs toward Will's horse and climbs on.  

           Arawn scans with his mana sense to the area where he saw a
         puff of dust go up.  He senses no mana from the immediate area.
         But as the dust settles the ground shows a slight faint aura.
         At this distance there is no information gleamed from the sense
         only a faint color.  Of course if its Vong there would be nothing.
         But he also knows that invisibility bends light and as such can
         protect aura from escaping.  Some Sidh say if you glance just
         right in side vision you can see invisible people.  But staring
         directly on the gods seem to have deemed the person shouldn't be
         seen or detected.  But Arawn only knows the puff of smoke is
         there and not a person.  He hasn't an idea that Will has gone
         since he is behind Arawn.  In fact Arawn doesn't know Raban has
         been left behind.

           Kiet suddenly feels a slight shake in the wagon and notices
         over his shoulder Unali leaping out.  That's the second to
         leave and wonders if staying on this thing is safe with the
         people leaving in droves.  Now its a sole drivership for Zhou
         and Z'leyra.  He grumbles as he pulls on the reigns to gain
         control of the rear horses.

           Whitney finally puts out the final bit of smoldering fire on
         the wagon though scorch marks and a small hole now exists.  AS
         he regrabs his shield on the rack he is suddenly hit by the
         telepathic communication.  his mind tickles as he feels the
         familiar contact.  He felt it once before when he was a prisoner
         on the Choshai ship.  That would mean only one thing the one
         named Will is contacting him.  He glances over his shoulders
         both ways to find no sign of Will.  He recalled moments ago
         the man got off his horse and then disappeared.  glancing
         forward he stares at the UFO wondering where Will has gone.
         The words begin to flood his mind.  

           Inside the wagon Zhou stares in shock as his wife leaves
         him.  He sighs and mumbles. "This is no way for a noble wife
         to act!"  Crawling toward the door on the couch he reaches
         over and closes the door.  The dust is just awful!  He then
         realizes he is alone.  He wonders if the party is starting to
         abandon him?



         [Time: 2:26:45pm]

           As Will finishes his mental conversation with Whitney he
         begins to verbally cast another spell.  This time to recast
         his invisibility spell.  Nothing changes as he remains
         cloaked in invisibility.

           Z'leyra hooks her drum onto her belt and hopes no bump will
         knock it off.  She then turns and grabs her sling with her
         right hand as she gestures with her left and speaks the quick
         words of a spell.  At the end she becomes invisible. 

           The flyer and horses continue to move forward.

           Raban finishes up his request to the gods. "...and guide my
         Arrows so  they strike True."

           Whitney's eyes lurch up as he gets the final words in his mind.
         He glances around and then holds onto a rope ring for balance.
         Standing now on the small ledge for a seat he glances forward.
         He sees Z'leyra suddenly disappear and now only Kiet.  Most
         of the party is ahead of the wagon some.   Some like Tef'wo
         is a good 500 feet ahead of the wagon.  He knows he won't
         be able to be heard by all but he yells as loud as he can.
         "Will says: Object is vehicle.  Empty inside."




         [Time: 2:26:48pm]

           Z'leyra casts a Clairvoyance spell upon herself as she
         remains in the seat and listens to Whitney yell behind her.

           Raban casts Blessing for offensive help upon himself

           Will casts another spell as he completes it he suddenly
         feels a prickle jolt from his legs up to his spine.  He
         suddenly becomes full of adrenaline and invigorated.  He
         feels like he could take on Raban himself.  As he does the
         side effect of drawing upon the earth's strength begins to
         work as his leg begins to regenerate.  He feels the healing
         energy of the earth repairing his leg.

           Even at this distance the Flyer is still over 1,000 feet away.
         The wagon led by Kell suddenly turns due west.  At this point
         going north would hinder the course.  The now it will be a point
         of some going west and some north.



         [Time: 2:26:51pm]

           Z'leyra begins to cast another spell.

           Will continues to heal his leg.  




         [Time: 2:26:54pm]

           Z'leyra finishes her spell and suddenly levitates above the
         seat of the wagon.  As she does the wagon continues forward
         and her butt hits the luggage rack.  As she impacts some
         of the luggage comes loose.  Some bag goes flying back past
         Whitney.  But another bedroll slams into Whitney's head hard.

           Will continues to heal his leg.  It now feels as if his leg
         is fully healed and the healing energy begins to move up
         his body to his other bruises and damage.

           Raban now 700 feet behind the position of the wagon takes
         a running few steps and then leaps to the air.  

           Whitney bashes the bedroll to the side but then is hit by
         the last item to become loose a blanket.  AS it covers his
         face he is blinded by the blanket.  He muffles a few words in
         anger and tries to claw the blanket but the speed of the wagon,
         wind, his awkward balance and one hand gives him trouble.
         Finally he throws it behind him and grumbles.
       



         [Time: 2:26:57pm]

           Will continues to heal inside his body.  Now he can firmly
         stand on his leg with no problems.

           Kell casts Battle Mind himself.  He attaches to the spell to
         Chion who is nearby and behind him.  He isn't sure if Chion
         allowed the spell or not but helps.  He notices the aura
         around him.

           Raban flies toward the wagon.

           Z'leyra levitates toward the UFO.

           Whitney now with blanket away from his face continues
         to yell out.  "Target on Barn roof!  Will engaging!"  He
         then wonders what Will meant by target?  Is that another UFO?



         [Time: 2:27:00pm]

           Even with strength and stamina flowing through him, Will feels
         his body is fully healed.  He concentrates and ends the
         regeneration by his mental will.  As he does this he casts
         a spell to end the earth strength spell.  It would do no good
         to engage the enemy and find yourself falling unconscious.  OF
         course he doesn't have the fancy ability like the Elves to know
         if the spell works.  He only hopes it does.  



         [Time: 2:27:03pm]

           Kell glances at the UFO and seems to learn the same information
         as Arawn as far as the UFO is concerned via the Battle Mind. 

           Will recasts insubstantial upon himself.


         [Time: 2:27:06pm]

           Will recasts Levitation.

           Kell scans the roof of the barn but sees nothing or no one.


         [Time: 2:27:09pm]

           Will casts a teleport spell and moves to over the barn roof.
         He is now about 15 feet above and to the rear of a humanoid
         figure lying on the roof scanning the distance.



         [Time: 2:27:12pm]

           Ben'dar yells a battle cry as he now closes the gap fast. He
         doesn't notice that behind him the wagon and others have turned
         toward the barn.  But now he is less than 500 feet from the UFO
         and can fire his bow soon in just seconds.

           Will draws two of his throwing daggers from his belt and throws
         them down and at the back of the humanoid.  Both daggers impact
         onto the roof of the barn missing by a few inches.


         [Time: 2:27:15pm]

           Will levitates up 10 feet from his previous location.


         Actions? Comments?

         Next Update...Monday...

         GM: Mailing list acting quirky.  I got one post 2 days later than
             it was posted.  I've gotten several duplicate messages.  I
             also got old messages from a week or two after the actual
             post.  I never saw one of Will's post till it was quoted.
             So from now on will have to check the archives again to see
             if I lost any.  I check spam filter nightly but even his
             post didn't get there.  So I repeat if your post isn't on
             the game website I never got it.  If it is on archives then
             I'll eventually check it and get it.  I try to update the
             game site a few times before updates.  Just a warning.

         GM: Will you have no Throwing dagger skill just spear.  I didn't
             give you a full penalty for it since spear will give SOME
             benefit but not the skill needed.  Even so sadly your daggers
             missed the humanoid.  

         GM: Verify the action list below will do these actions unless
             you change your mind.  

         GM: I know we are dealing with some big scales here.  It is
             confusing to figure out distance properly.  But next few
             phases missile fire will be possible.  Ben'dar should be
             the first within 1-2 phases.  I did a slightly better (but
             not perfect) zoomed in map at the bottom.  It still doesn't
             give accurate positions due to the rough scale.

         Gm: Heading to Barn or UFO:  It is unclear as to who was heading
             where.  So here is my conclusion on this.  Correct me if I'm
             wrong.

             Arawn   - Facing West going toward Barn
             Ben'dar - Facing North to UFO
             Fremea  - Facing north-west going slightly to both barn/UFO
             Kell    - Facing west going to barn
             Kiet    - Facing west going to barn with wagon
             Raban   - Facing north going to wagon then UFO
             Unali   - Going to barn
             Will    - At barn now
             Z'leyra - Going toward UFO

             Caladan, Chion, Farseeker, Strie'bog, Whitney, Zhou - All
             following Wagon thus to the barn. 

             So as I see it Raban, Z'leyra, Ben'dar will directly
             engage the UFO.  Fremea and some others may once/if it
             gets in range.  All others will go to barn and possibly
             use it for cover.

             At this point we'll only do 2 phases.  Since combat will
             now no longer be this long-range trot.  the flyer will
             be in range.  So plan for 2 phases at a time.  If there
             is a situation where closer in hex maps can be used I'll
             do it.  I may work on it this weekend to help solve some
             of the scale position problems.    But you should have
             a generic view of the situation.  

         GM: Current details -

             Horseback - Arawn, Ben'dar, Caladan, Chion, Farseeker,

             Flyer to Wagon   -   530 feet
             Flyer to Ben'dar -   430 feet
             Flyer to Fremea  -   370 feet
             Raban to Wagon   -   290 feet behind wagon
             Flyer to Z'leyra -   650 feet
             Barn to Kell     - 1,460 feet
             Barn to Wagon    - 1,750 feet


             Keep in mind one row and 1 column is 200 feet.  So the
             actual locations are generic on the below map.  If I did
             it in hex format it would be over 200 hexes.  So for
             now have to use the below map.  The object still has some
             distance to close in.  It looks like it will take another
             10 phases before object is over the wagon.  That will give
             7-8 phases before it is likely within missile fire and
             spell range.  So my plan is to do at least 10 phases next
             update.  This assumes nothing else happens bad.  So you can
             plan for 10 phases (30 seconds) if you wish.  I'll keep the
             above planned actions in mind so only post if you want to
             change or add actions.  After next update I will then move it
             to 2 phases and slow things a bit down.  May work on the update
             a bit Wednesday night.  But not sure how things will go.  It
             looks like a hectic week coming up.  

         GM: Actions -

               Ben'dar - Fire on horseback with bows at UFO - Long range
               Arawn   - Fire arrows within range
               Fremea  - Arrows, Cold Arrow in Range, Cast Luck,
               Kell    - Move more to Barn, investigate
               Kiet    - Follow north but then follow Kell
               Raban   - Cast Multiarrow at 600 feet to UFO, Fire arrow

               Since most spells and arrows are in 300 feet range it
               may be some time before fire is done.
