        From Raban: [Re: Swimming]
          <Wheeee, Raban is out to See the world but seems unhappy with
          accommodations. Travel by Water Spout just is not up to cruise
          standards. <Now we may get to see how some rules work I have
          not looked at for.. well..since the dawn ages of PnP <If I
          recall, water is not friendly to start with and water full of
          crazy merfolk is likely worse!

          <Raban may have to tap his chest again if he goes into water?
          <Otherwise if he is under for more than a minute, he may need
          some help....
        GM: Ack.  Swimming rules?  Not that complex that I recall.  But
            will look at them myself.

          Kell will hurl his first spear at the still healthy merman.  If
          by chance he is killed, Kell will melee the second.  If he
          survives the thrown spear, Kell will fight him.

          Arawn gathers magical energy for another healing spell.

          Fremea reloads and fires another arrow toward the Merman in
        crows nest.  The arrow flies and immediately separates and
        replicates magically into four more arrows.  All five arrows
        hit the merman.  The first hits his neck but does not penetrate
        his tough hide.  The second hits center left ribs doing 4 points
        of damage, 3rd arrow hits right shoulder but fails to penetrate
        his tough hide, 4th arrow also hits in the other side of the neck
        doing 2 more points and the last arrow hits in the left shoulder
        doing 3 points of damage.  With three arrows in him the Merman
        staggers back to the rear of the tiny nest and growls.  Amazingly
        he is still standing but in obvious distress and pain, as if only
        thing keeping him up is sheer will and adrenaline.

          Arawn concentrates and places a hand on the newly arrives wounded
        sailor that just fell down the ramp and was slammed with the other
        sailor and Arawn up against the wall.   With his other hand he
        feels a faint pulse but the man is unconscious.  As the spell
        activates green healing energy hits the wound and heals it only
        about 40%.  But Arawn realizes he improved from a fatal wound
        to a Moderate one at least three degrees better.  

          Corona dives again toward Merman #12 standing over his stunned
        pals.  Another lance of magical fire bolts out and hits the merman
        in the left shoulder but only doing 1 point on his tough hide as
        it sizzles a small black area.

          Raban finds himself in the vortex of water in a dizzying speed
        of air, water and motion.  When it hit the ship it partially
        started to break apart but the spout continues as the ship quickly
        sped past it.  But as it hit the ship it took some wood with it
        and now that wood is flying around like wooden missiles.  The
        merman it swept away with Raban is also somewhere in the water
        spout but Raban can't tell where.  In fact he can't tell where
        up an down is so he can't just fly away.  Would do no good to
        fly up and suddenly impact into the water like hitting a wall.

          Unali turns to her right and hears movement up the stairs and
        they sound bigger then the sailors and party.  She assumes it
        must be more Merman and retreats to the left into the shadows
        of the forward rigging.  She could've attacked the Merman in the
        center of the ship but realizes that could open herself to danger.
        The dagger seems to suggest this as well in its slight nudge of
        warning.  As she moves toward the rigging she hears grunts and
        groans from up in the nest.  She glances up but can't see anything
        in the nest at this angle.  As she rounds the forward part of
        the rigging the shadows of the full square sails make her impossible
        to see.  She then glances up and notices a form leaning into the
        back of the nest and some pointy things around him.  She then
        sees a glint of metal in the dim lantern light from the aft
        section and sees three sharp points.  She has seen those before
        on the others and figures it to be a Trident.  She belts her
        daggers and reaches for the ropes.  She begins to climb the
        rigging in the darkness slowly.

          Farseeker watches the cowardly Merman retreat.  He glances around
        the hall and sees some of the party and at least one downed
        sailor.  He knows he isn't of use to sailor but Z'leyra can be
        so rushes down the hall and runs for the stairs.  He has to
        force one sailor to the side to get past, move over the down
        sailor and nudge past Ben'dar to get to the port side hall.

          Chion follows suit and the same path as Farseeker and gets just
        behind him in the hallway.

          Ben'dar glances down the hall and notices Z'leyra and nods
        to her and the downed sailor.  He then leaps over him and runs
        past Chion and Farseeker.  Being further down the hall then they
        were he makes it further and gets just to the start of the stairs.

          Arawn finds the sailor he just healed should be good for now
        until someone like Z'leyra can treat him.  His pulse feels slightly
        better.  Arawn quickly tears a piece of cloth and presses down the
        wound to stop the bleeding.  he glances at the other sailor who
        looks better.  He wonders what just happened with the water if
        the ship tilted and a giant wave hit the ship or some monster did
        it but so far he just can't guess what it is.

          Kell knows throwing a spear in a cramped area the size of a
        outhouse is hard to do even with friends like Caladan and Whitney
        nearby who could be wounded.  So he holds off for now and uses the
        spear in both hands to thrust at one of the nearby Merman.  As
        he thrusts the spear misses the creature by a few inches.

          Z'leyra in her nightgown and holding staff looks a bit strange
        wearing her helmet but glances around.  She sees 7 sailors in the
        immediate hallway.  At least four are bleeding but three are
        standing.  The Captain is holding his side but looks well enough
        for now.  The First mate is on the ground and wounded as well
        but seems to be moving.  The only one that isn't moving is
        Sailor #6 from one deep looking chest wound.  Z'leyra rushes
        past the other sailors toward the sailor that looks the most
        critical.  She kneels and drops her staff.  She finds him in
        serious condition and bleeding badly.  She rips some of her own
        gown and tries to press down but the cloth quickly becomes soaked.
        She fears this sailor will die.  She checks his pulse and finds
        a very weak pulse but his breathing is labored.

          The Captain holding his side glances around.  He nods at the
        help Z'leyra is doing.  "Go!  Two below, search."  His orders
        are quick and clear.  After the mermen and at least two sailors
        should head below to search.

          The First Mate next to Z'leyra and the down sailor sits up
        with a grunt from his own wound.  With one hand on his chest
        stopping his own bleeding he looks at Z'leyra to see if he
        can help.  Seeing that he can he helps press pressure on his
        bleeding wound as her hands go to other body areas.

          Caladan thrusts his staff at one nearby Merman Kell failed to
        hit but the staff also fails to make body contact.

          Shu quietly exits her room in confused.  With Dagger in hand
        she climbs the ladder in the forward section where Whitney,
        Caladan and Kell are located.  As she climbs she sees the
        three men fighting two beings she has never seen before.  She
        blushes at the naked woodsman and hesitates joining the fight
        as she is no fighter and would be hard to fight in the cramped
        area.

          Kiet can hear a muffled order from the captain.  He creeps
        around the corner to hear better but sees nothing going on.

          Will, invisible, rushes past the opening made by Farseeker
        between the sailors.  he passes Z'leyra and steps over the
        body she is working on.  He ends up just behind Chion and
        Farseeker in the hallway.

          Strie'bog heads after the Merman getting halfway between
        Farseeker and Ben'dar. 

          Sailor #2 who Arawn just haled opens his eyes and glances
        around.  Confused he moans and sits up.  He glances around
        to figure out what is going on.

          Sailor #3 which Arawn only partly healed stirs his head
        and moans but doesn't open his eyes.  He licks his lips and
        moves his arm just a bit.

          Sailor #4 and #5 weave past Will, Chion and Farseker and both
        end up just behind Ben'dar near the stairs as they give chase.

          Sailor #7 and #8 nod at the Captain and rush after the Merman.
        They move past Z'leyra, Chion and Farseeker to end up at the door
        of the horse hold.

          Sailor #9 and #10 head down the port side aft ladder to the Cabin
        deck to search as a team for any Merman.

          Merman #9 and #10 head up the stairs and run toward the center
        of the ship to rally.

          Merman #12 growls at seeing the two merman head up and wonders
        why they are coming back up so soon.  He guards his fallen friends.

          Merman #15 turns to notice his two friends join in his area.  He
        glances around for targets but the only one just went off the
        ship in a water spout.

          Merman #16 swings his dagger at Whitney but fails to hit.

          Merman #17 stabs upwards and hits Caladan right in the upper
        left chest and shoulder area doing a massive 12 point wound.

          The Merman in the nest reaches up and pulls the arrow out of
        his neck and grunts.  He tosses it down onto the deck and starts
        to glance at the night sky for who could be doing this to him.

          Whitney swings his axe at Merman #16 but fails to hit.

          Zhou finishes up dressing.


        [Time: 3:55:30am]

          Z'leyra gathers magical energy for a healing spell.

          Shu gathers magical energy for a spell of her own.  

          The Merman in the crows nest spots Fremea as her wing
        bursts are a blur in the darkness even to him.  He smiles
        and raises his trident in a weak arm.  he then speaks a
        curse or some words outloud.  With a wicked smile he activates
        the magical trident while pointing at the winged creature in the
        sky trying to keep pace with the fast ship.  But nothing happens.
        The Merman noble wonders why the magical trident wouldn't kill
        this flying thing!

          Z'leyra down below grabs her staff and quickly casts a healing
        spell on the critical sailor #6.  She knows she has no healing
        equipment handy and no time for a full shamanic healing which
        would do far better.  With her free hand she places it over the
        wound and speaks the words.  The green magical energy swirls around
        the wounds and heals it by 2/3rds it seems.  She does a rough
        guess and figures the critical wound goes to a light wound and
        he is healed by at least four degrees of health.

          At the ladder near Kell and Whitney, Shu raises a hand and speaks
        some quick words.  She then thrusts her hand forward and a sticky
        spider web is thrust upon Merman #17.  The merman quickly becomes
        entangled in it and drops his dagger. 

          Fremea can notice a build of magical aura around the trident in
        the Merman's hand standing in the nest.  She sensed she just
        escaped a big thing.  She reloads and fires quickly again.  The
        five arrows fly and all hit the Merman yet again.  The first
        hits in left shoulder doing 4 points, 2nd and 3rd hits right
        leg and left shoulder again but both arrows fail to penetrate
        his tough hide.  The 4th arrow does 4 points to his right upper
        chest region and the 5th hits right arm but fails to penetrate
        his hide for a total of 7 more points to the merman. She is
        amazed still to see the merman still standing.  

          Unali reaches the bottom of the actual nest.  She glances up and
        notices pressure in the basket like a form leaning up against it.
        She squints and then notices the Merman with back turned.  She
        knows the next few feet is dangerous.  To get up and over she
        would be heard.  He could act and cut her down.  She could try
        to leap up the rope rigging to stab at him but it is a risky
        move.  She grabs her magical dagger and decides to stab through
        the basket would work best.  The magical dagger boosts her chance
        to hit and the dagger pierces the basket of the nest and hits
        the merman in the right rear leg.  The dagger penetrates the
        leg going up just below his kneecap and then through the kneecap
        doing massive damage.  The Merman screams and then falls forward
        and slumps over the other side of the nest with arms dangling
        down.  The trident in his hand goes crashing to the deck below
        and blood pours onto the sails.

          Farseeker rushes past Ben'dar and up the stairs to get to the
        top deck.

          Chion follows Farseeker and ends up at the top of the stairs to
        the top deck.

          Ben'dar runs up the stairs and past Farseeker.  He charges
        Merman #9 and thrusts his spear at him.  He hits in the lower
        right back but the thrust is weak and only does 1 point past
        his tough hide.

          Arawn hears stomping and running feet in the distant hallway
        near to the hold.  He notices both sailors seem to be stable
        and stands up in the slippery area.  He moves slowly up the
        ramp and peers over the side.  He can see three are still mermen
        in the back and they appear to be still stunned.  He notices
        there are now three in the center and he notices Farseeker and
        Ben'dar are now on deck.  He glances right but sees no Raban
        at all.  Glancing back he sees high above the center deck is
        Fremea hovering with bow in hand looking toward the crow's nest.
        He glances in that direction but at this angle sees nothing.

          Kell stabs his spear forward and hits Merman #16 in the right
        shoulder doing 3 points past his tough hide.

          The Captain leans down and rips some of a dead Merman's pants
        and wraps the cloth around his own wound to apply pressure.

          The First mate smiles and then leans back against the wall seeing
        the other sailor doing better.  He rests and notices his own wound
        has now stopped bleeding.

          Caladan now wounded backs off.  He wanders toward the small
        brig area near the stairs to tend to his own wound.  He notices
        some of the others heading up the stairs. 

          Kiet notices a couple sailors climb down and head toward cabins.

          Will slips toward the stairs and ends up on them.

          Strie'bog runs up the stairs and past Farseeker.

          Sailor #4 and #5 runs up the stairs.  When one bumps up against
        the invisible Will he almost slices with his weapon but realizes
        it could be one of the party and stops.  Both sailors end up on
        the top deck near Farseeker.  

          Sailor #7 and 8 head toward the stairs and begin to run up.

          Sailor #9 sees Kiet, "Merman on top deck!" As he yells this
        to Kiet he heads down the hallway.  Sailor #10 opens doors and
        glances in each room he gets to.

          Merman #6 and #9 turn to attack Ben'dar.  Merman #6 fails to
        hit the barbarian but the second hits him in the right arm with
        his trident doing 3 points of damage.

          Merman #11, 13, 14 and 15 now over the stunned affects of Arawn's
        spell grabs their weapons and stands.  They charge down the
        rear platform and towards the center of the ship.  Merman #12
        who was guarding their bodies notices their leader, the noble,
        fall in the nest.  With a growl he charges with the others.

          Merman #16 thrusts his dagger at Whitney but fails to hit.

          Merman #17 is entangled in the web and struggles to escape.

          Whitney sees his chance and swings his axe at the helpless
        Merman #17 and hits in the chest.  The already wounded merman
        takes the final damage to kill him.  

          Zhou finally leaves his cabin and walks calmly toward the
        forward ladder.  He notices Shu halfway up the ladder and just
        waiting there.  "What's wrong?"

        Actions? Comments?

        Next Update...Thursday...next 2 phases...

        GM: All right.  Here is the schedule.  I have to go into work
            early Friday 2.5 hours early.  As a result I will not be
            up late Thursday night.  I'm off Thursday as its my first
            vacation day.  As result will work on the update Wednesday
            and some Thursday afternoon.  I hope to have the update
            out Thursday night before I go to early bed.  So please
            get actions in by Wednesday early evening if possible.
            This also helps in that this is a holiday weekend.  So
            folks who might be going out of town can see the update
            late Thursday night.  It should likely be out before
            midnight so can see it earlier than usual.  Hopefully
            next update could be the last 2 combat rounds.  I then
            will do another update monday night - labor day.  We
            will then move on.

        GM: Removed the hold deck map.  No longer needed.  There are still
            1 on the deck but likely won't survive.  So map isn't really
            needed I don't think.  

        GM: My Darktech.org email account is being ended soon.  I
            had it mainly for the BBS at one time.  Since I've
            shut it down not really needed.  It was a very reliable
            email service and since but the service is ending for
            all their accounts.  So as of now please send ALL email
            to my longshot at cybermax.net account only.  Thanks.   The
            top header has been edited.  I'll get to the website
            stuff to edit that eventually.  Speaking of website
            still can't update it.  I'll try to call the ISP in a day
            or two and remind them to reboot their servers.  So
            update out in email only for now.  

        GM: Notes:
            Arawn - Your on the top of the ramp (P20].  I will do
               the emailed action of invisible next phase.  So
               let me know just the next phase after that.  You
               had to move to peek over first then you can have time
               to cast the invisible spell.

            Fremea - Still hovering over deck, wings going very fast to
               maintain hover since ship speed is fast.  The merman
               noble in the nest is likely dead.  You now have six
               merman almost right under you in one clump.  Will assume
               you fire on them. BUT be aware the spell will be
               over next phase.  To recast multi arrow you will need to
               land on the deck and recast it for the first phase.
               Let me know if you do this.

            Raban - Will deal with your situation in next update.
               I need to work on some of the math and see how far
               out you will be and such.  Assume though you may
               have a impact and possible fight if the Merman in the
               spout lives.

            Chion - Your at the top of the stairs, not on map.  
               
            Kiet - Only party member on the Cabin level.  With the
              warning you now are aware of the threat.  Do you
              climb up to investigate?

            Whitney/Kell - Still got one merman left.  He is wounded
              So will assume you gang up on him.  Kell you could
              go down the hall and hurl your spear but could still
              hit Whitney and now Shu.

            Will - Still invisible, on the stairs going up midway
              up the stairs.  Not on the map.

            Z'leyra - With the critical one healed there are still
              wounded here but not as bad off.  Do you join the fight
              up or remain here to treat the folks in the hallway?

            Unali - Top of rigging currently.

            Sailor #1 - Still down on deck by wheel.
            Sailor #2/3 - Healed but on ramp
