Game Update #17 in sequence (file #71]
     ----------------------------------------------------------------

Admin notes: Another update disruption. Death in amily (uncle).
There was going to be another disruption next week but that's
changed :). In 2 weeks will be on vacation that week but should
    keep a normal schedule I hope :)

    1) Website still can't be updated. Seems I can't get through to
ISP. They were planning on moving to a more secure location
from being in hurricane alley last year. So they may be
in between server changes. Hopefully soon.
    2) Ben'dar aka Chris's emails changed to ckwells at gmail.com
I'll update the website file of email addresses when i can.

    [Recap]

       From Ben'dar: [Re: Actions]
Ben'Dar would prefer to camp outside, since he dislikes
         towns in general.

Since he has virtually no money, he won't buy any supplies.
To Caladan, "Thank you for buying more food."
No change to skill training - Ben'Dar will continue to work
         on his horsemanship.
       GM: Ack.
                                ************

       From Strie'bog: [Re: Actions]
While Strie'bog has no problems camping, he would like to
go to the Inns to see if he make a deal with the innkeep
to perform as payment for lodging. If acceptable, he will
also spend time trying to learn any information he can about
the condition between here and Cholchara, as well as any
         general rumors.

I wans't sure what costs were paid for, so either Strie'bog
will pay the cost for rations, or he will thank Caladan.
Beyond that, there are no other items Strie'bog needs.

On the next leg of the journey, Strie'bog will continue to
         learn how to ride.

Strie'bog [to Z'leyra]: "Thank you for letting me watch as
you apply your healing skills. As I said, there is much
that can learn from you and the others of this company."
GM: Ack. Wow! First time in years I've used the Entertainment
Chart. Will have to dust it off! :)

                                ************

       From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions]
Stay in town, might hear news of interest.
Share room with party member in good inn.
Purchase silver goblet if she doesn't already have one.
         Grain for horses.
Usual magics (depending on rest day or spell day). If spell
day cast watchful sleep on any in party that respond
favorably to "I need practice with my Watchful Sleep spell.
Anyone care to help me out by letting me cast it on you
when it is time to sleep?" Practice Herbalist skill by
looking at roadside growth for NMIs. Plus pick edible herbs
         as we go along.
Spells...depends on how much mana she has left. Tell me
and I will plot some spells.
GM: Alreadyu have silver goblet per your inventory. Have
to catch up on your mana. Too many spells too little time :)

                                ************

       From Unali: [Re: Actions]
Buy food for next leg of journey OK
Will join group in town or outside, based on majority.
She is fine with sleeping outside, but will enjoy comfort
of inn. If an in is selected, she will pay for single room.
       GM: Ack.

                                ************

       From Jordi: [Re: Actions]
         Jordi thinks for some seconds.

"First, I think we must camp out of the town. If the town is
full of people, all the inns will be occupied. Of course,
they will make room for us, because we have killed the serpent
woman, Farseeker, a high ranking King Officer is with us, etc..
but I think it will be an abuse... and people will resent it.
Better to camp out of the town.

Also, camping out of the town has another advantatge: we can
make watches without drawing suspicious or insulting our
guests. I think someoen explained me that burglars love this
          kind of people concentrations..."

          Jordi keeps thinking.
"I think some of us are a bit encumbered... and that slows
movement. I suggest we can buy a draft horse in this town,
to carry some party items. We can sold it after this trip,
or we can make something more intelligent: leave it in Ben'dar
ranch, if he agrees, so if we need it again, it will be ready
and in good shape. Ben'dar can choose it."

           Jordi looks at Farseeker:
"By the way, we have killed a serpent woman that terrorized
this area, we have returned what she stole to the villagers,
and we haven't asked for any reward. Is it normal behaviour
for this people to make us pay for food when they have plenty
we are in the collecting season, if I'm right-? -there is no
malice in Jordi's voice, but just plain curiosity.

Note: Jordi will buy the needed food. And if he finds a
"souvenir" he thinks Neva will like, he will buy it also.
GM: Unfournatley by the time I got your post I was just about
to post the update. So all the next (95% except for
the Cholchara stuff) was already done. Sorry. The
party split up for Crossroads. You do make a good point
and dialogue however so will give you credit there. :)
As to being encumbered we covered that in Maren city.
We have 2 draft horses already. Its a matter of skill
(lack of horse riding) and weight (chion - over 240 pounds)
so those factors are things to slow folks down. Once
Strie'bog and Chion get better in horse skills they can
get better riding mounts and thus increase movement and
decrease encumberance. Course chion could stand to lose
a few pounds :). No trinkets of value for Neva. It is
a poor village. As to your question to Farseeker.

Farseeker: "The richest man in town is the blacksmith
when the military drives through on operations he
gets well paid. Everyone else from the farmer to the
inn keeper are trying to survive. As a result they
are poor people barely making it aside from a small
profit here and there. I do not ask for reward or
from these people as if we do that we take money
away from their children and their lives. I came out
here to kill the serpent women in the first place.
We failed when they fled. It was our duty not our
goal for profit. So to answer your question these folks
HAVE offered their thanks, food and even the little coin
they have. As a representative of the military I declined
their reward based on regulations. But it was really
an excuse so they keep face and their pride. I then
requested the true rewards go to the victim's of the
families. I felt that with our riches from Clima it was
           the least we could do."
GM: Ryan aka Farseeker hopes that is a good answer for you :)
It was voted on to give any rewards to the families and
no one declined that offer. Paying for food is done
by Caladan (last update or this one).

                                ************

From Z'leyra to Strie'bog: [Re: Reply]
Strie'bog [to Z'leyra]: "Thank you for letting me watch ..."
In response Z'leyra says "No problem. The more healing skill
people know, the better the lives people will lead."

    [New Stuff]

Sepes 8, Monada in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: 60 Miles NW of Maren City, Plains/Road
At the crossroads of the 3 roads. Village surrounds
the road area and mostly on the river side. Crossroads village.
     Time: 8pm

[As the party enters the small town they seek out a few good
inns. Farseeker recognizes one of the guards for the town
garrison (as he explains it he trained him) and gets directions
      and advice.]

GM: Votes for staying or camping
Player Stay in Town Camp Either Unknown
         Balrog X
         Ben'dar X
         Caladan X
         Chion X
         Farseeker X
         Jordi X
         Kasha X
         Thig X
         Strie'bog X
         Trembyl X
         Unali X
         Xian X
         Z'leyra X
               Total 7/13 3/13 4/13 1/13

Based on this most prefer to stay in town after the long dusty
trail a good bed will do them good. Ben'dar, Caladan and Thig
will find and make a small camp outside the village. In fact
its real easy to find a place as many farmers and travellers
have made temporary camps to sell their crops or stay the
night. So its pretty safe outdoors along the town margins.
In fact might be more dangerous from town drunks than monsters
and bandits. But that night nothing occurs.

The party finds two hotels. Balrog, Chion, Farseeker and
Kasha decide to stay in 2 rooms in a cheaper inn at 2 CC.

The other party finda a good inn. Jordi, Strie'bog, Trembyl,
Unali, Xian and Z'leyra stay in 3 rooms (2 per for safety).
     The cost is 4 CC.

I've deducted 2 or 4 CC. Since this is not a major city they
will include a small minimal meal. For those camping they'll
use their travel food but no inn costs. To house the horses
a stable needs 5 BB per horse. This is 3 BB for a group rate
to store all and 2 more per horse to feed them and clean them.
So its a good deal for a small town. These costs for all
but those in camp will be deducted as well.

Strie'bog makes contact with the inn keeper to sing for his
room rate. The inn's tavern though is tiny and he agrees
after s tiny demonstration of his skills. The room is full
of about 12 peasants. The party seems to be the only high
station folks here. He plays his instruments and sings
for about 20 minutes. The peasants who can't afford a great
deal of coin tossing do contribute by giing 17 BB. The inn
keeper was happy and agrees to let him stay the night after
those 17 BB are given to the inn. Course the inn keeper
only loses 3 BB in the deal. A meal is thronw in as well.

That night nothing occurs...except for those in the beds
     a good night's rest.

                                -----------

Sepes 9, Monada in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: 60 Miles NW of Maren City, Plains/Road
At the crossroads of the 3 roads. Village surrounds
the road area and mostly on the river side. Crossroads village.
     Time: Morning/Sunrise

As the party wakes up they head to various places around town.
Balrog heads to a armor shop which turns out to be a shop
next to the jail/garrison. He buys a new leather suit of
armor since his was destroyed in the last battle. Many head
to a shop to buy food where Caladan pays for the set of
travel rations. Some head to the stables to gather the horses.
Farseeker, Kasha and Trembyl head to the garrison to turn over
the loot they found in the serpent women lair. All but 2 of
the families live in the immediate area so they agree to give
a share to each. the other 2 families are in Maren city and
part of their share will be sent there. Farseeker is satisified
with this arrangement as he knows the men in the garrison well.
The trio explain where to find the lair and bodies of the
serpent women if they require it.

Some head to the grain store to buy food and grain (grain
being a generic term for grain/apples/food for the horses here).
Caladan will pay the 69 CC for all teh horse food as well
for the next leg. He's not sure about the next time though.
Will depend on things down the road.

     No other supplies are obtained.

Rumors - Z'leyra and Strie'bog actively seek out rumors and
do some drinking/listening. Most (95%) of the conversation
is general gossip of local folks like:

       * Widow Daro got the help of 2 farmer boys on her farm
by trading them foo and other things...
       * Old Man Jessup got so drunk he went to his outhouse
but in the morning he found himself in the chicken
coop and his chickens escaped the open door.
No real rumors on local monsters or bandits. This time
of year the authorities increase patrols to decrease
road bandits. There was one interesting rumor Strie'bog
heard a gang person (he thinks) talking to another gang
member. Both were tatooed and looked like a typical thug.
While Strie'bog isn't up on Marentian as a lgnauage he
heard words like ship, deal and "White Jolt". But the
two thugs left before he could learn more. Strie'bog
was alone at the time so couldn't get help in the language
     area.

Grain - Caladan pays for 500 FP worth of grain (food).
By the end of the next leg when the party enters Cholchara
the horses use 369 FP leaving 131 left over since grazing
is better on this leg as the grasses increase in amount
as the party heads toward the mountains. I've changed the
food report to help deal with this situation and speed it up.

Once a good breakfast of food or rations is done the party
leaves. Farseeker stops by the garrison to ensure all
documentation is taken care of for the serpent women booty
     then the party leaves.

Sepes 16, Wndida in the 163rd Year [TH]
Location: 102 Miles on Road - North of Crossroads
Weather: Around sunrise a quick drizzle occurs which is
         warmer than usual in temperature.

Encounter: By this time the group trusts Strie'bog to
be sentry. He and Unali are sentry this time of
night around 1:30am (17th). Unali is on patrol while
Strie'bog remains in camp. Both are alerted to
a clanking noise approach and find 5 humans talking
and they yell out before they approch.

Unali understands the 3rd language they try as Marentian.
Strie'bog understands bits and parts. Others easilly
awake as the 5 humans (3 males and 2 females in their
middle ages) talk to Unali. Seems they are lost and
are looking for directions to Maren city. They believed
they are too far west. When its obvious the 5 humans
mean no trouble (not even weapons are seen other than
a few daggers, a hunting axe and a bow). The group seems
to be travellers from Iravoy. Their camp is off to the
west and saw the party's campfire and went to ask for
directions. Directions are soon given when they explain
they can follow the road south and then east. The five
humans are embarrased as to being lost and overlooking
the road but they must've crossed it in the darkness.
After about a half hour the two groups depart as they
go back to their camp. The lost people thank the party
and seem friendly enough. Nothing else happens.

Encounter: 11:02am. Party spots 2 large adult falcons flying
high above and Z'leyra's eagle joins them but the 2 falcons
seem to be in courtship and so fly away.

Weather: Overcast all day but nothing else.

Just before sunset the party enters Cholchara city margins
and then as the sun fully sets they enter the city itself.

                          **************

          * Chion you finally learn to ride fully when you enter
Cholchara. The extra boost also gives a EL3 in it
and thus you can ride Warhorse 1-2 and Riding Horse 1-3
now. But your butt has some nice welts. If you want
Z'leyra could give you a nice massage in that region? :)
** No Natural Magic items found. For days where the skill failed
you can check the skill report on the website. There
was one day you had a critical failure. From it you
accidently grabbed a wrong plant and had a itching
fit for the next 4 hours.

     -----------------------------------------------------------------

[On the 18th day after Caladan got his bad news the party
finall arrives in Cholchara city on the Sea of Cholchara.
It is a city full of history as its been sacked numerous
times by Ba'raul, Marentian, Zen'da and the L'p'nth over
the centuries. The city of 22,000 normally is bustling
with peasants so likely increased by 3,000 from nearby
villages and towns. The sky is dreary with overcast and
the temperature is falling a bit as the party enters.
The first outdoors market place has a crowd with even
a small herd of cattle as some argue over the animals.
Many peasants are unloading wagons and carts full of their
crops or talking with merchants. City guards roam the city
looking for trouble. As the party enters the south gate
they are tired from the long trip. Several riders including
Strie'bog and Chion have saddle sores but it seems Chion is
finally getting used to riding. Thig dons his robes to cover
his form. While its not too common for a faerry in these
parts there is still prejudice. But most folks just ignore
the small rider among the other riders in the party.]

Xian: "We might as well stay the night here."

Caladan: "We are still almost 400 miles from my homeland.
We are near the plains but still have to travel a bit.
We have two choices to make. We can set sail in a boat
to Asichi then from there take a river boat up to our
destination or we can go overland. Going overland there
is a road that ends at the Ba'raul border. We could divert
to Ba'rual city if we needed to or cut across the plains.
I took a look at some maps before we left. It should
be easy sailing over the Sea of Cholchara. Once we get
to the river though we'd have to travel between various
Zen'da tribes. We'd have to deal with both sides encountered.
Overland is almost the same situation and we'd have to
ride through some tribal areas. Course we do have two
Zen'da, Ben'dar and myself, but it could be hard either way.
The Zen'da peoples are not too friendly to outsiders
       initially."

Farseeker: "Going up river we'd have to pay for the horses
       to be carried."
Kasha: "But we could make more time?"
Trembyl: "Well at our speed on horses right now we could
make likely five or six miles more per day depending
       on the winds."
Xian: "Also we'd be less encumbered on a water craft."

[As the party discusses the situation it will be eventually
settled. The party finds a stable to store the horses for
those who will stay in town. The party dismounts. Some
may head to a tavern for a meal and room while others find
      a shop or entertainment.

Ben'dar, Caladan, Farseeker, Jordi, Xian and Z'leyra decide to
help locate the tavern hall where Strie'bog is expected to play.
He is actually a couple days early but he knows the name
o the place. After getting directions they find the
street which is darker since the city hasn't lit the torches
on this street yet. As the party spots a sign hanging over
a door they get closer and in a strained view recognize the
name as the "Parrot's Beak" which is the place. A man in
his 40s is sitting almost directly out front drinking a
flask of something. The man looks like a hard worker but
innocent. He glances at the party and ignores them until
Xian asks if this is the right place. The man just nods
and grins. suddenly a smell overcomes the party as the
wind shifts. Besides the bad odor of the man it smells like
ashes from a fire nearby. Strie'bog climbs the one step and
approaches the small door. he reaches for the knob when
he pushes in the door falls flat inward out of his hand and
out of the hinges. The small group is amazed to find there
is no tavern. But a husk of a once large building that was
a 2 story structure. From the obvious black and white marks
all over and the smell its clear the place has burned down.]

Farseeker [Turns to the man] "Excuse me."

Man: "Yep. Burnt down a day ago. SEems...(burp)...this drunk
lad tripped a wench...(drinks from flask)...she fell onto
the table where her hair was scorched by the table candle.
She yelped back and fell onto the fireplace pot which spilled
over. That caught her dress on fire. She went flailing about
and bumped into a hanging lantern which fell onto a table.
The oil lantern caught the table cloth on fire...and (drinks)
up she went. No one ..(burp)...was hurt...but the place
       is gone..."

Xian: "No one hurt? Where's the owner?"
     Man: "Kravo?...oh...hrm...where did he ...go..."
     Xian: "Yes?"
     Man: "You know...I can't....recall..."
[Xian puts a finger in his robes and into a coin bag. He
pulls out a copper coin and drops it down. The man looks
      down, shrugs then grabs it.]
     Man: "Gone.."
     Xian: "Gone where?"
     Man: "I can't--"
Farseeker [stepping down and in front of sitting man. He
pulls his hands out and places them on his great sword.]
"You know the city patrol are friends. Maybe a night's
rest in the garrison would jog your memory? After all
drinking and causing a public display of drunkness may
        not be wanted here?"
Man: "Oh...hrm...well he left town...said he had nothing
else here for him. Went to a relative's place to figure
       out what to do next...all i know...honest!"

[The group walks away from the shell of the once big tavern.
Where only the front wall remains in place. Once out of
      earshot of the man...]
Xian: "Since when do you strong arm folks like that?"
Farseeker: "Since he likely shouldn't be hanging around
a possible scene like that. His arm did you see it?"
     Xian: "No."
Farseeker: "The mark of a felon the Asichi place on felons
which is pernament. Likely theft or something minor
but you have to be strong with such folks. Hes harmless
likely though. Probably out of work."

Xian [turning to a shocked Strie'bog] "Sorry. I guess there
is no performance tonight or any night soon. You going
       to try other taverns?"
Caladan: "Your glad to join us if you can't find a job but
that's up to you. We'll be moving on to the plains to the
north as you know. We likely will stay here tomorrow for
a few hours rest or all day rest. Once we do leave let
       us know."

[The group moves on and finds some place for the night or
      a new tavern to eat.]

     Actions? Comments?
     Next update Friday...

GM: Whew. I had this update ready last week. Then got another
       post, another..then another..and another...so had to catch
up. Finally am. Also all the book keeping and logistics are
caught up (finally!). Website I still cna't access. In fact
the server doesn't ping, likely offline. I've emaield the
ISP and such. I have a small ISP (not one of these large
places which I hate. Been with them since 1996 my first.
Hes a nice guy and I've left voice messages. It may not
be till later this week before I can talk to him again
live as during day I'm usually so busy can't call down state.
So I'll post the stuff you may need to see in the following
mailing list posts. Ignore them if you want. Everyone
should be caught up on spells, skills, food and mana. Emails
have been sent out with that info. Now we have soem things
to decide again. This could be the last city before we get
to the plains (depending on your votes). So this is likely
the last supply point of good supply areas.

Food- Everyone I paid for food up to this point. But after
this no one has food (for the most part). So new food
will have to be obtained. But the problem is depending
on votes won't know how long it'll take.

Chion - Your not a good rider with the horse. You can sell
your cheap mount and buy a new one (see above). This
will increase your speed and decrease encumberance likely.

Strie'bog - This is where you can decide yoru future :)

       Votes:
         * Stay in town or camp outside.
Either way likely no encounters outside in a camp. But
in this case city margins are more 'street' oriented
than open wilderness. If in town keep in mind this
will likely be last good BED point for a few weeks
so a good bath and bed might do some wonders :)

         * Take water or land route. If you wnat to consult the
           map you can.

So lor now just vote Town/Camp or Water/land. Then I'll
get the votes and we'll go from there. There will be
a update on friday. I'm off next week for vacation but
will be around for updates. After leaving the city the
real adventure will start once entering the plains.

If you have questions let me know. Will let you guys
       know when website is updated.
