Questions:

GM, you mentioned that the light from the fires illuminates the 3 targets on the ground. Can we now see the flying monster also?

Does Ben'Dar know that Balrog is in the darkness? Does Ben'Dar know that something is attacking Balrog? (Is Balrog calling out, or can Ben'Dar hear the scuffling of the fight within the darkness, etc?)

Actions:

Ben'Dar grasps his spear and staggers to his feet as quickly as he can, his ruddy face dark with anger.

If answer to Balrog/darkness questions is yes:

Ben'Dar will climb onto Tef'wo's back, watching the sky as he does so. He is ready for another swooping attack from the creature in the air. If it attacks again, he will impale it with his spear and smash it into the ground to let his horse stomp it into the dust.

If the flying creature is not near him or if he can't see it, he will focus on the moving patch of darkness. He will assume that whatever is causing the darkness is at the center of the darkness and that it is pursuing Balrog. He will also assume that Balrog is still facing north, since that is the direction he is moving. Ben'Dar will kick Tef'wo into a full galloping charge toward the center of the darkness. At the same time Ben'Dar will shout to Balrog, in Marentian, as loud as he can, "Balrog, run forward NOW!!!"

Ben'Dar's plan here is to try to position whatever is pursuing Balrog in between Ben'Dar and Balrog, so that Ben'Dar's charge will hit the creature and not Balrog. A risky plan....

If answer to Balrog/darkness questions is no:

Ben'Dar will stagger back to his bedroll, leading Tef'wo. He will grab his bow, dropping his spear to the ground at his feet. He will try to shoot down the flying creature.

If it flees, Ben'Dar will climb onto Tef'wo's back and pursue, shooting arrows at it as he goes.
