Basic mouvement in the middle ages is 10-20 miles (on foot across normal
landscape including pauses and a few stops, with medium load in a normal
daylight and clear weather)..
I used information from many sources (RPG and non-RPG) and put that in a
tough medieval environment (no really roads or facilities to help the
travellers).
I've a easy to use table for this if you want.

I had to refresh myself on the movement rules. 2.3 section book 2.

So 40 miles per day base. Yet it suggests using MR per day for the fastest
creature/animal. No one would read that as base plus MR?

So a steppe pony MR 24 could go 24 or 40 or 64 miles in a strategic turn?

24 is realistic...40 seems pushing it...64 is extreme...
so I always went with MR...

But then again cowboys could ride horses from Texas to Denver in no time on
the cow trail. So in some ways they do move alot.

Course there is creature variation, magic and pushing the animal an extra
few miles...
